Off-campus housing

Hello, I've been accepted to graduate school at UGA. I'm wondering if anybody can provide some advice on off-campus housing. I would be looking for an area away from a lot of younger students. Are there any areas to avoid, any less-than-desirable neighborhoods in town? What is cost like?

There is plenty of housing available in the Athens area. A pretty good way to go about looking for housing would probably be to go about 10-15 minutes outside of downtown Athens. Most of the undergraduate students either live on campus or fairly close to campus, although there are some apartments in the downtown area that have a decent amount of graduate students as well. I would suggest looking at apartments on the west side of Athens (as those areas are pretty solid). As far as less than desirable neighborhoods, I would suggest checking out this useful map:

Pricing is usually pretty reasonable with a roommate (anywhere between $350-$500), but of course the pricing increases with singles ($600-$800).

I recommend Timothy Woods, on the west side. It’s got a good mix of graduate students, families, undergrads, and retired people. [Timothy Woods - Apartments for Rent in Athens, GA | About Us](http://timothywoodsapartments.com/)

It’s generally better to stay on the west side. If you do live on the east side, stick to apartments close to College Station Rd or Riverbend Rd. However, apts close to those roads are mostly filled with undergrads. North side scares me…I wouldn’t venture out there myself. I would also suggest looking at craigslist. You can find some good places there for a good price.

Archer on North is a newly renovated apartment complex that has a lot of great things and seams to fit your needs and is in a great location. There’s more information here at [Archer on North Apartment Rentals](http://www.archeronnorth.com). Hope this helps.
