Off Campus Housing

Does anyone know what the best Off Campus Housing options are? I'm hoping to save as much money as I can while also ensuring that I have my own room. I don't mind having a lot of roommates as long as I have my own space.

I won't be moving until a few days/weeks before classes start in Fall 2012, but I'm hoping to get some advice on what areas are best for students so I know what to keep an eye out for.

Thanks!

if you’re a freshman you’re not allowed to live off campus your first year unless you’re with your parents.

that aside i’d just scout around various websites. anything north long beach i’ve heard is bad, south usually best and most expensive since it’s downtown, and i believe west is also not as good as east

Tutu, not all of north LB is bad. I grew up in north LB. If you are in th bixby knolls area, you are fine but once you pass Del Amo, that’s where it can start to get a little sketchy but there are still good neighborhoods as you go down to South St.

Also about west, you want to be on any street that is close to the beach (Ocean Blvd) that is near 7th st or lower. Higher than that has super cheap housing in the ghetto with absolutely no parking, ever. Parking down there is already bad. But if you can get something close to temple and Ocean Blvd you will have better chances of finding parking. I have also lived in this area of LB too.

I plan on sleeping in my van for the first two weeks of school or so. What is a safe place to park and just lay out in peace? By the beach?

Mono, you can’t be on the beach or in parks past 10 pm. So otherwise during the day and evening you’ll be fine for hanging out at the beach or a park.
