Off campus housing

I will be living off campus for my junior year starting fall 09. I am moving from a satellite campus. I plan to live at a nice apartment with 3 of my friends from here.

If anyone has experience with off-campus housing can you share what it's like? Is it a hassle trying to go to campus and back twice a day? What do you mostly do for food? Eat on-campus between classes with a meal plan or just cook something at your own apartment?

I'm someone who likes to balance studying/classes and partying and have been successful so far. I'm in a particularly difficult engineering program so I assume I will be spending a lot of time on-campus but I can't wait to get there in fall 09.

I have some friends who are doing the off-campus housing thing for this past year. If your appartment is downtown than you don't have to rely on the bus system as much as someone who lives in some of the apartments further away. Although PSU UP bus system is fairly regular and easy to catch once you understand the schedule and loop systems.

As far as food goes, the off-campus people I know don't buy a meal plan as it costs too much $$ and they find themselves eating at their apartments alot more. They sometimes settle to purchase something ala'carte at the HUB or Redifer Commons.
