I visited Mcgill this past week and loved it. I am wondering what it is like to find housing after your first year. Where do people mostly live? Is it expensive and/or hard to find a roommate?

It’s not supposedly expensive at all, and, while I have no actual firsthand experience, I imagine it is fairly easy to find affordable housing near the campus as so many students (the vast, vast majority) live off-campus.

I moved out after first year, first to an address in the Plateau (Clark St), and currently on Durocher. The closer you move to campus, (ie, “The Ghetto”), the more expensive rent gets. There are some great deals on apartments when you get further out, and I recommend the “out of bubble” living so long as you don’t mind a 25 minute walk, or metro/bus/bike ride to campus. My rent was under $400 in the Plateau, and it’s currently at around 650 in the ghetto. Depending on the landlord, sometimes electricity/hydro is included, other times not. Just get an early start you don’t want to begin searching for a May lease in April…
