Somebody asked me about off-campus housing at Alabama. I didn’t really know what to say, as I’ve never had to deal with housing either on-campus or off. Do you know other students and you parents know a lot of what the places to go and the places to avoid are?

feenotype, there was an email in my sons crimson mail about some off campus housing came in a few days ago. didnt check it out (so no idea of whether or not its good) as son will be on campus…would you like me to check the email and post a link or pm you with the info?

Sure, go ahead. Thanks.

here you go:
[The Retreat At Lake Tamaha – The Very Best In Student Living](http://retreatalabama.com/)

The Bluff is very nice, but I don’t know how expensive it is. Each apartment has its own washer and dryer. :)

^
It’s in the neighborhood of $4-5,000 a semester if I remember right. UA housing scholarships cover all but the summer, making it a decent option if you’re doing summer work, but I’m personally going to stay in the Ridgecrests for free (plus, Ridgecrest North is on the way).

I am familar with those newer and pricier student-oriented condo colonies. What about the older and less expensive housing options immediately south and west of the main campus? Does anybody have any experience with those?

D will be living in a new apt complex next year which is similar to her suite style room even in price.

But UA has a program for off campus living that is note worthy. In the single houses and older apartments they give a seal of approval. They check the properties to make sure thay are up to code etc. & then approve it.

Many schools we have visited could use a similar program. Much of the off campus housing was shady at best.

I believe you can find a link under Housing.

Also D recieved a email from the university telling them what to look for in off campus housing. Reviewing lease agreements etc…
