Any advice for places to live off campus

I would like some information on this as well. What are the safest/nicest/least likely to rip you off apartments? Now calling for SunnyFlorida or parent2noles?

Sorry but my D lives in a sorority house on Jefferson across the street from campus, for a steal. To be honest, had she not had enough points to earn a spot, she would have been in Ragen’s (her priority number was 28ish). And P2N’s daughters both lived on campus for the duration.

I can tell you this. You will pay for nicest/safest. And they won’t be that close. And you have to factor in the extra time to leave early, get a parking spot and get to class. And you are likely to not want to leave campus until your last class so that you won’t loose your spot. Then factor in gas money. And food. Can you tell I am a proponent for living on campus? I know. The limited space available is less than ideal. But living on campus is conducive to academics. And living off campus is more social. At least on the surface. But many students living off campus find it to be isolating.

Just ask around for leads on apartments or townhouses. In class, ask other students where they live and what their experiences have been. Word of mouth from other students will be your best bet. There are also a few websites where local apartments are rated with comments.

Just remember, student based apartments are often referred to as student ghettos by those in the rental business.

Last August, we helped our DS move into University Pavilion on Call Street. Through a Mom’s eyes, I saw a “well” used apartment, but clean and in good repair. The bedrooms are on the small size with a double bed, dresser and desk. I was surprised at how big both the dining and living rooms were. He and his roommate seem to be happy with the apartment. It’s within walking distance to Doak Campbell and the Leach Center.

I just checked that apartment out today actually. It had terrible reviews on apartmentratings.com, but the tour seemed nice, the residents I saw walking around said they liked the place, and one even let us see their room and it looked just like the model room.

Anyone else have any experience with The Pavilion at University Village?

Does anyone have any information about the apartments called University Village? I understand it is walking distance to FSU. Since son does have a car and is currently living on campus if it would be hard to get to classes depending on the distance.

University Pavilion is part of University Village. I think there are three different groups of buildings - The Pavilion, The Oaks and The Village - all on Call Street.

A couple of the FSU bus routes have stops on Call Street. Though my son has a car, he mentioned that he’s been taking the bus so he doesn’t have to search for a parking space.

its easy, right across the street, literally a 10 minute walk to the heart of campus. Pretty expensive though (you pay for location big time)
