Off Campus Living Cost

It seems a lot of people around here are more familiar with the off housing options in Austin then me so I figured I would ask for some help.

Next year I'm going to be a freshmen, I will have 3 sophomore roommates and we are going to be getting an apartment.

For 4 people, what would probably be our best option?

Any guesses on what the total cost per roommate for the year would be after factoring in utilities etc? A lot of people have told me I'd be surprised its not much more then on campus living.

If you live off of Riverside drive in all the big student apartments there, housing will be less than in the dorms. Many of those apartments have individual leases - each room has its own bathroom and lock, and you share a living area; the apartments are furnished. We know many kids that live there. The area is serviced by shuttle buses, and campus is about a 15 minute drive away. I still think it is a good idea for freshman to live on campus...

Thanks for the quick response!

What about places closer to campus? Would they be more expensive then dorms or just equal? I don't think we would stay in Dobie but I think there are some other places (not the Castillian I read the warning lol)

I too planned on living in a dorm but after being invited to room with some former classmates I figured they would make the transition to college life a lot smoother since they already had a year to learn the ropes.

find someone you want to live with and look on www.craigslist.org for somewhere to live, possibly on north or west campus. My brother is at UT and he found a great deal.
