I just visited UT. I loved everything about my visit from the food to the city to the architecture of the buildings. However, I did not like the dorms, at least Jester. It seemed to small and resembled a prison, in my opinion.

So, I have a couple of questions:
1. Are the off-campus private dorms much better than the regular dorms?
2. Are there any other dorms that are like San Jacinto? (I thought San Jacinto was pretty good and wouldn't mind staying in that dorm. However, I probably won't get it because I paid the $50 late.) --> I liked the bunk bed, which saved room. I also want/like the private bathroom.
3. How many freshman stay on off-campus private housing? (I want to make many friends wherever I stay)

Thanks! If there are any prospective Fall '15 students thinking about sharing a private, off-campus dorm PM me.

Also you might want to look into the Castilian or Dobie:)

Towers SRD and Hardin are all private dorms that a lot of greek bound students stay, which is a really good choice. But SRD and Hardin fill up pretty fast so if you want those as an option definitely apply soon!

The castilian and dobie don’t have as many people who are going to do greek, but they are definitely options. The Dobie has private bathrooms in all of theirs I believe and the Castilian has an option for you to have a private bathroom or a connecting bathroom just depends on you:)

I’m going to be staying in the Castilian next year so if you decide to stay there hopefully I’ll see you!

I visited the dorm this past weekend and it’s actually not too bad. They have security cameras up in the entrances/parking garages and like they only have one elevator running after midnight that goes up to the dorms that way everyone coming in has to go past the front desk and they can see who is coming through. I kind of like the feel of living on your own without people breathing down your necks about everything cause I mean when I get a house my sophomore year I know their won’t be any type of security whatsoever. So I guess it just depends on how much security you want/need. :)

Stay in Jester. It kinda sucks from one perspective, but seriously, its not that bad and you meet so many people. It’s definitely a good experience for a first year.

Everything is so close (PCL Library and Greg Gym are both across the street), and even though the rooms may suck, the atmosphere is chill.

I toured Jester, Dobie and Castilian. I like Jester because of it’s prime position. Cant really beat that. Dobie’s rooms were unbelievable. LOVED them. So big and tons of closet space. Apparently the downfall is that lots of the international students stay there. It really wasn’t too far away from central campus or the drag. The Castilian’s rooms were much smaller and it just seemed pretty crappy after touring Dobie. It’s a bit farther away from campus, too. However, the people there seemed a bit more normal if that matters to you.

Those are my opinions of each dorm. Hope it helps!

If you’re just now applying for Hardin and SRD, you DEFINITELY won’t get in. You have to apply like before Junior year/early Senior year to get a spot. SRD and Hardin are already full and everyone has turned in contracts already.

Cendrillion, He already mentioned, earlier, that although some of his posts made it sound like he was a girl, that in fact he is a guy.

Just Kidding!

Viggy, check out the Dobie Center,

Went with my daughter recently, and came way with all the same impressions that you did about the campus and the dorms.

The Dobie Center seems like something you should check out. My daughter agonized over not staying on campus, and later decided that in the end she wanted more space and a private bath (shared with another).

The Corner Suite Plus (which is 2 bedrooms, a living room, and 2 baths shared among 4 residents) would be good for you, I think.

The food there (which we tested), is actually quite good. Parking is also a plus. It’s a high rise, 2 minutes walk to McCombs (a plus for my daughter), and the corner suite plus, has some nice (but small) windows as well. The building itself, on the inside, is dated, and has narrow hallways, with less than optimum lighting, But, for a college freshman, all in all, this, in my opinion, is pretty good.

I live in dobie right now and am in a corner suite plus. It’s pretty spacey for a dorm room. The food isn’t that great but they have the dobie mall downstairs, which is pretty cool and very convenient. A ton of freshman live at dobie and my roommate is in a sorority and there are others that live here that are in sororities and frats. Jester is tiny. SRD is all girls and so is Hardin I’m pretty sure. Dobie isn’t so girls and guys live on the same floors. They have like floor games and different things to participate in so you can meet people. If you’re looking to party a lot live at towers lol. The main thing is really it doesn’t matter where you live to meet people because it’s what you do or participate in that will make you meet people. Hope this helps.

I have been looking at either the Castilian or Dobie for next year and I’ll tour them both when I visit next week. Any advice/info on either of those?

Also I will be going into Computer Science so what is the distance like from each of those?

And now I’m thinking about University Towers too, it seems nicer and more spacious than Castilian or Dobie. Any info on that one too?

Heres some info about what I am looking for, maybe you guys can help me narrow my choices down.

I don’t mind a social dorm, parties are ok on the weekends
I would like it to be relatively clean, but keep in mind that I am a male so relatively clean just means no vomit/****/blood laying around everywhere
Don’t mind loudness, but I expect there to be a time when everybody quiets down for the night, 1 or 2 AM the latest (on the weekdays at least)
Would like a pretty spacious room and possibly a kitchen (is this only offered by towers?)
Don’t mind living with other roommates (in addition to the friend I am going with) but the rooms would have to be big enough and segmented enough just incase they are freaks
