<p>I am from out of state interning for the summer in a downtown location, so the Rice area seems to be somewhat close. Are there many places that are open for sub-lease over the summer? If so, how do I contact people without living in the Houston area right now? The only site I found was through Rice's website, and not a lot was listed for the summer</p>

<p>You may have to wait until nearer in time; it's a bit early to start looking. Keep your eye on the online housing guide in late March and early April. You could also post here again in a month, and one of the helpful Rice students here may be able to link you up with someone looking for a subletter. My DS may be off-campus next year, and may need a subletter, too, but it's too early yet to know.</p>
<p>Unlike towns that are really college towns, Houston as a city tends to rent places closer to the actual time they are needed. Drove me crazy last year when DD was looking for an apartment. If you are not in just a student place, or finding a "hand-me-down", the openings don't show up until about 30-45 days ahead of time. Sublets may be a little better but agree with anxiousmom, most are not goign to start thinking about it until after spring break the beginning of next month. You should start to see things posted after that.</p>

<p>It is kind of interesting, as up here in Upper Michigan people already start asking for sub-leasers for the summer in January already, and usually by March it is pretty much taken care of.</p>

<p>I just saw that posted as well -- it's on Elmen, which is a great location if you're working downtown. There's also some nice restaurants nearby -- Empire Cafe and Paulie's.</p>

<p>You need to check both links already posted in this thread – one to the off campus housing databank and one to information on rooms on campus. Some of the listings on off campus housing databank are for summer sublets or summer roommates.</p>

This links to the small garage apartments, complexes, folks looking for subleasers, roomies… and there are current listings for people needing subleasers. I just checked… :-)</p>
