im transferring to usf for spring 2012 and wanted to know about good apartments in good areas for living off campus if anyone has any experience with them? Ive heard good things about province but I want to learn about any other potential spots.. Thanks

I’ve done some research on this and visited most places, and here’s what I can tell you:

Avalon Heights: looks like the best value for the money, $500 rent all-inclusive, private bathroom, bedroom, and balcony. Daily trash pick up. Huge gym. Nice furniture included. Right across the street from USF.

Monticello: A bit further away from campus than Avalon, but same layout and price. All-inclusive. Less nice furniture. Tiny gym. No balcony.

On50: Across the street from campus, but the sketchy side. All inclusive. Slightly lower rent, but only 1 person in the apartment gets their own bathroom.

The Province: Newest place, but you’d need a car to get to campus. Rent much higher (at least $575 when I went). Own bedroom and bathroom.

Malibu: Hard to get into because they only house 200 people. All inclusive. Rent at least $580. Big kitchen, everything else is smaller. Very nice complex. Nice furniture included. Big game room / lounge.

Kaleid’s list is a pretty good one for popular student apts. which are reasonably priced. Avalon, On50, Malibu are all across streets from campus–easy walk or catch Bull Runner bus service. Malibu and On50 are both on 50th St. which is east border of campus–not really sketchy and near USF’s athletic district. Avalon is on Fletcher Av which is north border of campus. On50 is next door to a Catholic church and across from about 6 other churches and a Hillel center right on campus. If I had to pick a “sketchier side” for USF, I’d go with the westside, back of (west) of the VA Hospital, where you don’t want to be wandering around at night too much without your eyes wide open.

42 North and Malibu are the best in my opinion. Avalon has it’s appeal, but I’ve heard too many bad things about living there. When I visited Avalon it seemed to have this kind of party atmosphere, which wasn’t what I was looking for.
