"Off Floor " Member of Engineering House

Bear with me, my S is the oldest so this is new to me. Does "off floor" simply mean a different floor in the same building? Also, my S does not have a pre-arranged roommate and is ok with RIT assigning one. That being the case, should he bother to select a dorm room (received email stating appointment time)?

I would guess that “off floor” means that he won’t have the opportunity to choose space in engineering house, but that he can still be a member and join in activities and amenities. I am not sure he can count on being in the same building but in any case I believe he should pick a dorm room using his appointment time. I haven’t seen any indication that RIT will assign either a room or a roommate – everybody picks their room, which may or may not have a roommate already in it. But I’m a new RIT parent too so someone please correct me if I’m wrong about this.

Thank you, Crowlady! I think they can look for a room with one bed available and then look up the “roommate’s” info to see if they are compatible. We are soon to find out either way! Good luck to you and thanks again!
