off the beaten track essay

i, like many other high school seniors, have a bunch of extra curricular topics hich all lend themselves to essays. i did research in a lab, went on an international program and have had meaningful experiences with my grandfather. i have a very good gpa and sats. but i figured admissions people probably get a bunch of essays on all these topics from peopel with the same gpa and sats. i decided to write a creative essay about my feet instead. ther is some controversy here aobut how admissions people will see it. it brings out my sense of humor and knack for writing but it doesnt talk about my accomplishments or necessarily shed so much light on my personality. any ideas? (btw-i dont want 2 go into writing in the future)

I think it's fine as long as it shows something about you. Like you are not just writing a funny essay about feet, are you? You should have more of a point than that.

a girl from my school two years ago wrote an essay entirely on watching a pigeon eat a piece of burger king hamburger bun in the park and got into harvard with it. by all means, have fun.

the last thing they want to hear is "i went to this 3rd world country and it changed my life" or "this sport has really made me see my leadership" those are so so so so so so cliched and i am SURE you know that.

right about something that you REALLY care about, even if it doesnt sound like it will make a good essay. I.e., writing about research in a lab that you did may not sound interesting, yet if you choose a quirky little part about the lab and expand it while putting in little stories from your past or little ideas that clue them into your personality- that makes a good essay. make it interesting. exciting. INTELLIGENT. and dont be AFRAID to make it a little crazy..

Good luck!!
