New to this forum. 2nd child making choices. D was wait listed at Elon and got a call last night. Looking for input on Elon vs. Miami U. We have a deposit at MU,but would like her to make the right choice. D is coming from a small private school (class of 100). S is a JR. at Davidson. Elon was her first choice, but then when she was wait listed she moved on to MU.
Any input would be helpful.

Miami is higher ranking. But Miami is also in…Miami. I assume you mean University of Miami in Florida and not Miami -Ohio. Its a long ways off (unless you live in Florida). It has wonderful programs and great faculty but its also a party school. Its beach city. Its larger than Elon. But GREAT sports heritage and its the ACC.

Elon is a niche school and very good. Beautiful campus. Wonderful administration and faculty who spend a lot of time mentoring students. Its likely less expensive than Miami. Elon is becoming extremely competitive. I know people with an 1150/1600 SAT who didnt get in. Elon is big into community service, overseas studies and a very holistic approach to learning and serving. Elon kids get jobs as they are prized for personal and work ethics. I have a big soft spot in my heart for Elon.

In the end you have to decide if USNWR ranking, ACC sports, Miami weather…but Miami distance and party scene, is what you want. Or if returning to her original thought of going to Elon.

I belive OP does mean Miami University in Ohio. I would generally recommend Elon over Miami of Ohio for a student from a small school. The transition to a school as large as Miami might be rough. Student will get much more personal attention at Elon.

And just from a logistical perspective - having 2 kids at Elon and Davidson will be much easier than Miami of Ohio and Davidson.
