I wonder if Andover and Exeters waitlists moves but it is not reported?
I agree with @twinsmama. I recommend staying on as many waitlists as you can, assuming you would say “yes” to them if a phone call arrived and you have a day to make your decision over your Plan B. When on waitlists without an acceptance in hand, the luxury of a pecking order of preference goes out the window, IMO.
@twinsmama & doschicos: I defer to you both on this.
If very few students get off the waitlist, identifying yourself as that student = identifying yourself by name.
My DD got a call from Andover mid-summer inquiring if she was still interested in attending. She had a few M10 acceptances and never intended to be on the waitlist at all. It must have been the case that we didn’t email to be removed? She was applying as a Junior so I imagine that is a much more targeted admission and she must have some aspect of her application that would fill a specific role at the school. I thought the timing was odd, but I assume they lost a student right as the tuition payment was coming due.
Our wait list strategy has been to fill in the missing pieces from the original application, particularly references from those who weren’t able to submit on time. My DS also wrote this past weekend to the schools where he wanted to attend to let them know of his continued interest in being admitted. We’ll let you know whether it worked (though one never knows whether its the numbers, the specific ECs/hooks or the on-going communication)
Congrats @Gnomen16!
I know a girl that got off the WL at Thacher. She applied for 9th grade boarding.
Yep DS is off the waitlist and confirmed at a great school. We are all thrilled, overwhelmed by the kindness of the AOs, and generosity of the school. No idea whether it was ‘hook’, personal history, the application, or post-WL activities, but got the call at 9:08 a.m. the day after the deadline for regular admission responses. Unfortunately, as periwinkle notes, saying where is saying who. Guess that means I get to change my name on CC…
And my thanks to @6teenSearch , @ThacherParent and @twinsmama for their comments on the short note to the AO from DS expressing continued interest, sharing an additional accomplishment and committing to an acceptance. The AO, when letting us know admission would likely be forthcoming, made a point of mentioning the nice note from DS.
Congratulations to GnomenKid! Well done!
@Gnomen16 - what a nice post! Getting that call from the School is very exciting. Congrats to your son and to your family. It’s a team effort.
@Gnomen16 it was meant to be! Congratulations!!
Awesome news @Gnomen16!
