Off to College!

We are leaving today to take our daughter to school - truly a new and exciting beginning for her. Congratulations and best of luck to the students and families of the class of 2015.

To the MT hopefuls and parents of the class of 2016 - enjoy the ride - this stage will be over before you know it (at least that’s what it feels like now)!!

Have a wonderful time and to your daughter, have a great 4 years!

Thanks alibabba808! Have a great trip and tell your D we’re thinking of her and wishing her well! Sending email too. :0)

Best of luck to your daughter alibabba808!

Best of luck to your D, aliabba808! I hope she has lots of fun and success!

Hi Alibabba! So nice meeting you at auditions! Tell your D to to enjoy the adventure. I am sure she will be very happy at college. Just hope she packed her long johns! XOXO

Just dropped kiddo off today on the beginning of her college adventures! So excited for her – and she is very happy. Go to it, Class of 2015…and to this year’s auditionees…as I was getting ready to wake her up in the hotel this morning before dorm checkins, I was reminded of all the hotel trips we logged on the audition tour last year. It was definitely an adventure, leading to this new place. Happy travels to you as well!

I’m so excited for all of the kids heading off on this big adventure, and so sympathetic to those of us watching them leave home (and also starting to write some whopping tuition checks). :-D

D still has a few more weeks before school starts, but we’ve been saying temporary goodbyes to lots of childhood friends.

Quick question. For those heading to cold climates, are your kids taking all of their cold-weather stuff now, or will you take/ship it later when the seasons change?

MomCares - my D went to NYC from SoCal last year for college so she didn’t have any warm weather clothes. We waited until she arrived there and she found a winter coat and boots in the city. Most of her friends who came from cold places brought back their coats and boots after Christmas break.

@showmom858 – Thanks! I assume D might need a winter coat before winter break (starts early December) in Chicago, but I’ll check the weather history to verify. It would sure be easier if she could take it then instead of trying to take winter clothes in September.

I hope everyone who is already at school is having fun!

She will definitely need her warm clothes probably way before that. We live in Syracuse so sometimes we have snow by November but it’s definitely cold by early Nov. I know they aren’t in the same area but we have windy cold winters just like Chicago. My D heads out on Monday. So excited for her!!!

We are also from So. Cal. and my D was in Boston and is now in PA. She waited to buy her winter clothes there as the jackets here weren’t warm enough. She has really adapted to the weather and just wears a lot of layers now, rarely wearing her heavy coat. Like a lot of MT kids, she is almost always in tights and dance clothes, so just layers all of her stuff over them and manages to stay warm. She did need some warm clothes before winter break, but the real cold didn’t hit until January. My D left to go back to Penn St. today and I already m iss her! Have a great year everyone!

Not to put a damper on the excitement and enthusiasm of those heading off to freshman year, but I saw a sobering report on a Detroit news station last night about sexual assaults on the University of Michigan campus. There have been 7 in the past month. I’m sure that part of the safety information shared at orientation will include this information for new students but if you have upper year daughters there, it bears repeating the usual warnings to be careful and safe. This, of course, is something to be discussed regardless of college and city, but this clearly has been a real problem at Michigan since mid-July.
