Fantastic, so do I! Do you follow Premier League/MLS at all?

I haven’t played in a league for quite a bit, though. Informal play with friends is my usual setup.

No, I actually don’t. Though I should.

Depends. Do you have a remote fascination for philosophy? Besides that, if you haven’t read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, that would be an obvious choice from my end. It’s an enthralling book

where did you find the rules? link them to me, please.

They’re on the left-hand side panel.

ok, read the rules.

Hmm. Do you like to write? I feel like you would be creative in some way, either someone who creates cool sketches or writes stories.

I actually love writing! It’s not something I’d take up as a career, but I enjoy it nonetheless. What about you? You seem like you’d enjoy writing too. Or maybe you’re a movie enthusiast?

Yeah I really like writing. More particularly creative writing and poetry. The essays that 98beebee and I had to complete for boarding school were actually pretty enjoyable for me (I think we did most of the same ones). She probably thinks I’m insane though, haha.

Yeah, creative writing is great. It’s disappointing that there’s a stark lack of creative writing in high school. People truly learn how to write essays if they have the ability to excel in creative writing. I applied to a boarding school last year also (if you didn’t notice my post about it on the Class of 2014 thread) and I can relate. Pouring out my thoughts on paper, in a fictitious or non-fictitious manner, is nothing but enjoyable for me.

Off-topic (well, what isn’t when it comes to this thread): Anyone into political documentaries? Similar to Vanguard or the VICE Travel Guide.

I know! I get so bored in my english class, all we do is skip around books then watch movies. Yeah when I see a creative writing topic, it doesn’t take much for me to get going. It’s one of the only things that I won’t procrastinate about. I have no problem meeting the word requirement. And I usually do my best writing all at once, I usually don’t change around anything I’ve written besides for changing sentence structure and fixing grammar mistakes. And no, I didn’t notice you applied to boarding school.

It seems like the older we get, the more “soulless” English gets. When it comes to writing, the idea of having a teacher use set guidelines and be “iron-fisted” about it isn’t inviting. Let student’s minds flow off. I thrive off of the analysis-related prompts we get, because that’s the closest I can get to creative writing nowadays.

I hate English (AP Lit). I used to be cool with it but it had become time-consuming and feel like it just becoming more useless imo. But some fun stories to read if only we didn’t have to answer questions, come up with themes, prepares for the AP test (in the middle), and then write an essay about it… We doesn’t even get a day break (we did essay on thursday; got started on new book on Friday -_-)

Here’s another discussion idea I had: List out some of your most important long-term goals. I’ll start us off:

One of my most important goals is to speak at TED (or equivalent) when I’m older. About what? I don’t know, but that ties into some of my other goals. Rather than take a typical job in the science industry, I’d like to “outfit” a job for myself, innovate/research in the field of human development or urban sustainability (two of my favorite topics) and reap some fantastic and possible world-changing results. It’s a tad bit corny sounding, but instead of going to college venture into an industry with jobs, I’d rather go to college to create an industry with jobs (and hopefully share my findings with the rest of the world). It’s an idealistic vision at best, but I think I’d be able to apply my love and knowledge of science rather well.

I know the only writing in my English class has been book reviews that are graded by a very strict rubric.

long terms goals?
Get career
Get married
Get house
Get kid
Get rich
pretty simple actually but more realistically:
I want to do cool stuffs like traveling around the world or thinking of something no one have ever thought of before.

Anay, you have a really good handle on your goals. Yeah I’ve never been too excited about just obtaining a job thats already been created for me, a job that a thousand others have. And with a set expectation; I don’t know I just don’t like living with a strict set of constraints. All I know is that I want to major in bio and go into genetics.

Anay, that’s exciting! I hope it works out for you. I would love to speak at TED someday.

I want to get an MD/PhD program at highly ranked college and delve into the research and medical fields. I’m very interested in neurodegenerative diseases and immunology. Alzheimer’s, Huntingtons, ALS, etc. fascinate me. My grandmother suffered from Multiple Sclerosis for almost four decades, and I want to be able to contribute something significant to the advancement of a cure. I also want to go into the surgical field. We’ll see how everything pans out.

That’s very inspiring StudiousMaximus, hope everything works out for you.

Studious & Elizabeth: I’m glad we see eye-to-eye! It’s nice to see that we all share similar aspirations. As Studious said, we’ll see how it all pans out. Good luck to you guys nonetheless. In the wise words of Conan O’Brien: “Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen.”
