Ok, I got off the waitlist at Cornell last week, and I accepted their offer. Earlier today I got a call from my regional rep at Penn saying that they WILL be going to the waitlist this year and wondering where I stand. He said that they will begin taking people off mid-May and, although he can't officially offer me admission, I have an extremely good chance of getting off. Penn was my first choice initially, but I was all ready to go to Cornell. I can't decide. I'm a biology major, if that's anything. I need to let him know by tomorrow. HELP!

if penn is your first choice then go! congrats!!

I'd say stay on the waitlist for Penn and have Cornell as a backup just in case the waitlist doesn't work out.. congrats though!

I also got the call today.

where do you live?

Yeah, where are you guys from and when did you receive the call?

also, what school did you apply to collegebound5?

well, I didn't really think I'd get off the waitlist but still sad about it.

I also got the call today. I applied to Wharton.

I just got the call today too, I'm in Virginia So what does this mean? Am I basically in, or should I not get my hopes up just yet? I told him that I would come if admitted.

are you guys all in wharton?

wat exactly do they say?

i wonder if this means penn has a really low yield?

CAS. I dont feel it is official yet until there is a formal offer.

Is it safe to assume that if we were not called today, our chances of getting off the waitlist are officially much less?

@jor, i'm not sure if this means that they have a really low yield. When I visited for the first time and did the whole admission schpeel I remember that they had overadmitted the class of 2009. (wow thinking back that was SUCH a long time ago! who knew things would end up the way the did?) back to the story: since penn has somewhat of a housing shortage (that's why it isn't guaranteed all four years) it would make sense for them to under-admit again in the class of 2011. it's safer to use the waitlist rather than get a larger-than-normal class.

to the OP, I'd def chose penn. here are just three considerations of many to help you decide

1) You're from the "Middle of Nowhere, NY." Do you still want to stay in the middle of nowhere NY, or do you want to go to an exciting big city? Unless you're the small rural town type, i'd go with Philly>Ithaca.
2) Since you're a bio major, I'm gonna guess you're premed. Would you rather have an affiliated university hospital on campus, or hundreds of miles away in New York City? Penn has awesome premed advising, and there are many labs in the med school that you can do research at even if you're not premed
3) why don't you just stay on the waitlist anyway, see how things go, and then use Cornell as a "backup" if Penn doesn't work out? (the "wait-and-see" approach)

either way both schools are awesome. congrats on both

Just stay on the waitlist at Penn. If you do get off but decided that Cornell is a better fit, 1) reevaluate your decision making process (I mean, it's Penn) and 2) just decline Penn's offer and the next person in line will get your spot. Don't throw away your opportunity to go to Penn. I mean, we're the best Ivy.

If you did not get called today that does not mean that your chances of getting off the waitlist are less. No one knows how many waitlist spots there are. I am guessing that over the next few days some will be called. Then some more over the next week. Then another group will be notified in June, another group in July ect.

Do any of you know the fax number for the admissions office?
I was planning on updating them on a recent award, but was still working on editting the letter. However, now I'd like to send it to them right away. (Congrats those of you who were called, though now I'm so nervous!)
Thanks!

Just curious, did all of you send in extra stuff after being waitlisted?
