^ Yes, sometimes in the thickness of subtely and superfluosity, shock and awe value certainly does work wonders.

Well thanks a lot for trying to "help" Dartmouth by posting on an Internet forum. I'm glad that someone who knows exactly what's wrong with it knows exactly where he needs to let his opinion be known in order to get the ball rolling on improving the college. We on this forum, now that we know what the problem with our school is, will be sure to fix it asap. Thanks!

Remember, its not just about Dartmouth, its about the entire American University system. It is our last true monopoly, and the rest of the world is catching up FAST.

California, do us all a favor: shut up and go away.

It's funny because no one on the Dartmouth forum has any real criticism of the methodology, or any real relevant arguments. They just say "shut up, we're ivy league, now go away."

LOL! My goodness. So much for discussion and self improvement. You have done nothing but support even stronger my argument that Dartmouth has too much child like dependency on its ivy league status and not focusing on academic excellence. You are the prime example of the type of attitude that is causing some US universities to adopt an unhealthy attitude that leads to a fall in worldwide rankings. It doesn't matter my delivery at this point, because I speak the truth. Resistance to the truth simply complicates the long term ailment.

The reason why we are not responding to your inflammatory remarks is because they're stupid.

Everyone who's anyone in the academic and professional career field knows that Dartmouth is a superb undergraduate institution. First of all, your comments are unsubstantiated and based on evidential speculation. Case in point:

"Ask any Brown, Dartmouth graduate what is the best about their school. They will inevitably say " Oh the Ivy League pedigree"

Obviously you haven't asked every single Brown or Dartmouth graduate what's best about their school, or even a majority. In fact, you only have to look on this message board to find the Dartmouth students and graduates who rave about the other great aspects of their schools: no core curriculum (Brown), D-Plan (Dartmouth), strong language program (Dartmouth), renowned interdisciplinary majors (Brown), good theater program (Brown) etc. etc. I could go on and on. All you do is ramble on and on about how much they suck... not using anything to back you up except one questionable ranking and several fabricated claims. Insults and derogatory attacks to "help out the American school system?" I don't think so, big guy.

That's mistake number one. Mistake number two is assuming that any school without an extensive graduate research program is second-tier. Even the Ivy schools you got into (Penn and Cornell) have a big focus on research. Your lack of experience with liberal arts schools indicates your ignorance. Anyone who's done a little homework knows how comprehensive, intimate, and excellent most Dartmouth academic programs are. Why else would Dartmouth have one of the best graduate school placements in the world?

Finally, one of the biggest reasons we all know you're a total buffoon is your ad hominem approach to argument. You keep making personal attacks at anyone who's criticized your post because you're offended... If you genuinely cared about this so-called problem, you would take a more diplomatic and reasonable approach. "Their programs really do suck" is not reasonable. It is obnoxious and unhelpful.

Nice try, but nobody's buying it.

It's funny because you contradict your own argument in your posts. Dartmouth doesn't give a damn about those rankings you keep talking about because they are bogus. They don't even measure the quality of undergraduate education - just things like research and number of papers published and things like that. I've got news for you...research and publishing papers isn't the focus of the people who work at Dartmouth, educating undergrads is. That's why Dartmouth is so amazing, because you get professors who actually care about teaching and not how famous they can become. If Dartmouth truly hides behind it's Ivy League title, like you suggest, then why does no one care how it does in the rankings? Because we don't need to to know that our school is a quality institution that ranks among the best in the world. The only people that constantly quote those rankings are insecure little brats like you who are jealous of anyone that they consider more succesful than themselves. You just decided to come onto this forum (which is supposed to be about college admissions) to bash a bunch of random schools for no reason with a number of opinionated and unsupported remarks. Get a life.

Ah. I did not know Brown had a good theater program. Nor that Dartmouth had a strong language program. Lately there has been a perceived decline in the importance of the humanities, and I too hope they become more important.

BTW, nothing I say stems from jealousy, I sincerely believe that American universities are going to get some serious challenges from European/Asian universities in the near future. As long as discussion keeps us focused on our core competencies of academic excellence instead of relying on alumni donation rates for ranking ( ie. an email sent out to 10,000 alumni saying "Donate and help out our US News ranking!"), I see a brighter future for all of American universities.

I hope no one here misinterpreted my comments. I got used to a crass straight to the point style from my i-banking days. Have a good day. =)

still you guys were being pretty b*tchy too him

you never know if he's just helplessly clueless...

ya'll needa chill

california1600,
you're girlfriend must be pretty lonely with all the time you spend posting in CC...or do I assume too much? You just seem like such a charming and loveable guy...I'm sure you're just as loved by her as you are by us...and the world at large!

I personally think the Ivy League is filled with some really good schools. What do you Ivy League guys/gals think of the UC system?

Perhaps the best state sponsored schools on earth.

Living in CA - I know tons of people at UC's who LOVE it.
Then again they are no IVY leagues.

They are overcrowded, student taught, intense schools. Yet people who go there generally wouldnt rather go anywhere else.

It depends on the person. The schools are great, the weather for the most part amazing (especially UCSD), and its a great place to be overall.

But, there are people like me who don't want UC type schools so go figure.

Sorry Michigan and Virginia . . . you're loved too

Yeah, I think you are right. She did say something about that the other day. My my, you certainly are insightful and clairvoyant. =)

I think that the UC system is the best public system in the country...but currently they have some issues with budgets and crowding and that sort of thing.

Oh yeah and no California love for you.

mynameiszach,

It is my opinion and the opinion of many that some UC's are actually greater than some Ivy League schools. Depending on who you talk to some people think all Ivy League schools are greater than even UCLA and Berkeley.

I agree though that it depends on the person. Some love them and some hate them.
