I just received an offer to alumni interview with UPENN today. When I read the email, I found it odd that they would be offering one so late. Is this just a coincidence, as in they didn't have enough interviewers, or does this have a link to acceptance?

It is late in the interview season; Penn wanted the reports in by 2/25. Still, I don’t find it so strange that you’d be offered one so late because until very recently the committee was actively recruiting interviewers for applicants who lived in under-served areas (or who had not been offered an interview). Take the interview (I suspect it might be a Skype interview?) as it will help to flesh out your application. The request has no ‘link’ to acceptance although sometimes an interview is requested SPECIFICALLY to get additional information. Penn REALLY likes to have an interview as part of the package for students applying to the dual-degree program so that might explain the late request.

I had my one hour interview two weeks ago, but last week the interviewer called me for a followup interview. Is this a good sign? Every other interview I have had the interviewer made no other contact with me.

Rlpak - That is unusual but I would not read much into it. VERY RARELY, admissions will request an interview in order to get information missing in the application but I’ve honestly NEVER heard of that happening with a student who had already been interviewed. The deadline for those reports has just passed. I wonder if your interviewer lost the notes or needs to clarify some things for the the report. I don’t know why that would require an additional interview as it could be handled by email, but it won’t hurt to sit down again.

I received an interview request one week ago and did not check my email until today. Honestly never thought I’d get one for Wharton, since the report deadline has already passed, how important is this interview still going to be(also considering the fact it’s this late into the interview season)?

The report deadline was actually extended to tomorrow, March 2. It isn’t crucial that you have an interview - but if I were you I’d email the interviewer and apologize for not getting back to them. You can always decline the interview and certainly NOT being offered one won’t be held against you. But seeing that you WERE offered one, I personally would suggest you might prefer your file say “declined interview” rather than “no response”.
