Officail Rice Tranfer Thread for Fall 2011

The number is very dependent on a number of factors, including but not limited to retention, admission and yield. Once all the admitted freshmen commit or withdraw, they can move ahead.

It will be out soon. They just cannot give you an exact date yet

So I called, “next couple of weeks, possibly sooner” how about like today? :/

What time were they released last year? Can I still hold onto some small hope that they’ll be released today? :(

When looking at the 2010 thread, people started posting in the late afternoon about their decisions, which means there’s still hope. Although. I have a feeling its going to be sometime later in the week if not, next week. :(

On one hand, I’m hoping we’ll find out soon, if not today. But on the other hand, I’m starting to study for finals, and news (either good or bad) would definitely distract me. :D

@julianjfs Thank you so much for that info. It was very helpful. It seems that both Trinity and Rice are wonderful colleges, and I’ll be great with either. I was worried about finding a group of friends (because that’s a main reason I’m transferring… I don’t really like the people here), but it sounds like I’d find plenty. Right now, I’m an English major, but I’m not sure what I’ll end up doing when I transfer. I don’t want to be an English major anymore. I’m also thinking about anthropology, but I really don’t have a definitive answer. I think at either school, though, I’ll have plenty of room to move around and find out what I want to do. Thanks for your help!

Ahhhh I’m getting so anxious…

@krs1992: I’m also an English major. but I’m also not sure if I’d stick with it if I transfer.

i just cannot wait for someone to post…ACCEPTED lol  && then we all rush to emails! Did anyone check ESTHER?

Misread the last post, so I had to edit haha, but my ESTHER page hasn’t changed. I guess today just isn’t the day :(

whoa…NO I didn’t find out…thats why I wrote I can’t wait till someone posts that…by the way last year’s thread the first person posted at 5:44 so about an hour left maybe?

Hey!

An English major you say? I happen to be double majoring in Computer Science and English, and I’m also a creative writer with a minor in Chinese. I might just switch that to a major, but Chinese at Trinity takes a long time to complete, but it’s highly worth it. I just completed a class called Modern East Asia and I might take a class next semester called History of China. In regards to English, there is a senior seminar on J.R.R. Tolkien, and I’m taking a class in Science Fiction next semester. That’s just to entice you a bit more. ;)

If I don’t get into Rice, I’m going to be staying at Trinity. And if you decide on Trinity, we should keep in contact. My e-mail is modern_antiquity@hotmail.com, feel free to e-mail me anytime with any questions or just to chat in general.

Later!

I keep getting so confused because I forget that most of you are in a different time zone than I am :stuck_out_tongue:

But allisone92, I really really hope they don’t make us wait until next week… I mean, I want them to carefully review all of our applications, but… please?! Haha

I really really hope we don’t have to wait yet another week either…I don’t know how I would last that long, I’m already so anxious and nervous! It could literally be anyday, any time now…

Everyone, check your Esther account, the results are in!!
And i just got accepted!!!
I can’t even think right now.

^giariv -how long are they giving you to accept the offer?

Can you post stats please?

SpunOne-It says I have to reply within 2 weeks of admission, which for me is May 13th.
And my stats aren’t so spectacular:
H.S. GPA: 3.42 (4.6 weighted)
College GPA: 3.53 after first semester, I don’t know my overall gpa after this semester yet
SAT Highest: 620CR, 710M, 710W
ACT Highest: 29
My Rice essay was pretty much to the point- I want to go to this school and this school only, and despite my low scores compared to other candidates my passion shines through. I talked about how my mother and I made a trip to visit Rice knowing we actually needed the money to pay our car note, and the car ended up being repossessed after that trip.
It probably helped that I am a half black, half hispanic female who is interested in engineering.
Also, I am a sophomore transfer, mechanical engineering major from the University of Florida. I still can’t believe this…so excited!!!

yay!! transfers. guys if you have questions on transfer issues, go join the rice university transfer student group on facebook, you can basically contact one of the members and they’ll have a lot more answer to your questions than the general folks. We have a policy here of not poisoning the well here at Rice before new students actually join in. It is applicable to freshmen, but if you do not ask the right people, a lot of information is withheld which would have been better off being told for transfers. And yeah, if you want your classes transferred, save all the notes and all the exams and all the stupid stuff they gave you in the class you took. SOme departments are easy going but some can be a real pain in the ass.

I got accepted too but I’m probably gonna choose Cornell :/

Waitlisted :frowning: :frowning: :(

^Sparkin:I had to decide between the two and NYU but I decided for Rice. I was stuck in the midwest for two years and had enough of the 8 month long winters… You have a good set of schools to choose from and are probably suited for both. I hope you don’t let the “ivy” league part get into your decision as Rice gives you much more than a tag to associate yourself by. Good luck with your decisions. And congratulations on getting accepted.
