Yay! Omg omg accepted I think im having palpitations right now!

Accepted! Although it sucks that we only have until May 13th… I really want to go and visit one more time before I make a final decision between Rice and Trinity, and I don’t get out of school until the 6th.

Woo! Accepted! Congratulations to all!

If anyone on here is or knows someone who was waitlisted as a transfer and then later accepted, please let me know. I’m planning to write a letter confirming my interest, and ask my counselor to call, but I don’t know what else I can do… and I really want to get off this waitlist :/

Accepted! Does anyone else’s email say that on-campus housing isn’t available but “you will enjoy all the other privileges and associations of being a member of a residential college at Rice.” What does that even mean?!

Congrats, UnicornFantasy! From what I can tell, the deal with housing is that transfers are not guaranteed on campus housing. There’s a waitlist for any beds that may become available. However, each student is still assigned to a residential college, and you can enjoy all the perks of your college without living on campus. Someone more knowledgeable might be able to tell you more, but I hope that helps! :)

Waitlisted but not attending anymore!! Got fantastic finaid package from uh honors

Thanks, @krs. Did anyone else login to the financial aid page on ESTHER to discover that the deposit is due a solid month before the financial aid award is announced? This doesn’t look good…

Anybody else a non traditional student here?

I’m 22, went to a community college in South Texas, had an associate’s in biology in nursing, been working as an ICU nurse for a couple of years. I am currently working at the CV Recovery ICU at the Texas Heart Institute just down the street from Rice.

Stats? Here goes:

High school GPA: 3.6/4.0 ish. I’m not sure.
Undergrad GPA: 4.0/4.0… that includes a couple of classes that I dropped because I didn’t like em.
Extracurriculars: Won first place in the Philippine National Chemistry Olympiad when I was a senior. Was an active member and officer at PTK. :-)

I guess my essays did the trick. I felt like I literally poured out my blood, sweat and tears in convincing them that Rice was for me. I also think that my non-trad background helped to some extent.

My LORs, umm, I really don’t know, I asked my favorite teachers to write them for me but I waived my right to see them.

I really, really wish I get on campus housing though… When do we know which college we belong to? I mean, right now I live in the Med Center itself… but it’s still different living on campus.

Take care y’all and see you guys in orientation!

Unicorn-I actually received my financial aid award already. Also, I didn’t get that email you received about on-campus housing. I haven’t gotten any emails at all actually, just my acceptance on ESTHER.

bughaw: You will receive your college assignment in July. Last year, a large number of transfers who didn’t receive housing at their initial college were switched to others when beds opened up during the summer. I know a friend of mine was originally in Will Rice, and was switched to Brown when beds opened there in early August.

Tilgaham is right. They will try their best to find you a bed, even if that means switching colleges.

Accepted! I can’t believe it! SO ECSTATIC! Congrats to all that got in as well!

Do you mind posting stats? Thanks! :)

@Antarius What you said makes me feel a little better. One of the only downsides about Rice (besides the price, of course) is not being guaranteed on campus housing this year. Is it more common for transfer students to end up with on campus housing than not? I’ve heard that living off campus really isn’t terrible, but a main reason that I’m transferring is that I don’t have many friends here, and I feel that being on campus would be very beneficial in the friend making area.

Also, are there any scholarships given out to transfer students? I don’t qualify for financial aid, and paying full price for Rice will put a bit of a burden on my family. I know we can take out loans, and we will no matter which school I choose. Are there any merit scholarships that I could potentially get after my first year? Any little bit helps, really.

Usually there are small merit scholarships that can be picked up on the way. I got one for Chemical Engineering for $1500 and one for Theatre that gave me $3000 for example.

Being on campus is nice, but you can do it OC as well. Be sure to live nearby and make an effort to integrate with your college. I do not know what % of transfer students who wanted housing get it though. It also varies significantly by year.

CONGRATULATIONS everyone!!! Everyone from the Rice Transfer Student Association can’t wait to meet you and you’ll hopefully hear from us this summer. Since the Transfer Peer Mentor Program was so successful last year, the incoming transfers this year will also be assigned a mentor who was a transfer student themselves so they can answer all your questions personally. You should hear from them sometime this summer, so check your Rice emails every so often this summer when get assigned one! Congratulations again and I hope you guys come to Rice!

I noticed that the deadline to put down a deposit for housing is May 1st. Does this apply to transfers as well? That would give us 2 days to decide from our admission notification… lol

congrats to all that got accepted! Im from USC in socal, and I got my acceptance to the school of social sciences, is anyone else a premed transferring to rice?
