General Comments:
• A top choice. Flew down for overnight and met with department. Interviewed on campus. One Recommendation was from college math class where instructor went to Rice. Level of interest is apparently not key. I’m already over it – being admitted to 3 good schools does that :-)

@wimmiett
Same here! No clue how I got into arch and I was convinced they made a mistake. I’m also likely going to rice unless I get accepted to Cornell!

Reflection

Strengths: diverse experience (went to three high schools all located in different countries…), really showed what kind of person I am through my essays and rec letters
Weaknesses: mediocre GPA/SAT?
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: idk lol I don’t really understand how i get in, especially considering the significant increase in applications this year lol
Where else you are applying or have already applied: Accepted : UVA, UCLA, Lafayette, UMN Denied: Pomona(ED) Pending : Georgetown, Tufts, Berkeley
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: For future applicants, make sure you reflect what kind of person you are on your application. In my case, I tried to show that I’m a person who always takes initiative, and I think that really got me into Rice despite my mediocre grades and SAT. Also, get started on your essays ASAP! And have your English teacher look and edit them.

Oh, man. Who knows how I even got in!!! You guys have amazing scores and grades and clubs and everything…

Reflection
Strengths: My strong focus on specific details about Rice that I liked. My application and essays were unique and my grades rose exponentially as I went through high school. My ethnicity. Various awards.
Weaknesses: Not many volunteer hours, test scores were generally not as high as most applicants
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I have no clue why I got accepted. I had sports, volunteer hours, clubs, awards, my GPA rose a LOT from freshman year, and I’m Native American, but girls from my school had all this and more (except ethnicity) and got wait listed or rejected.
Where else you are applying or have already applied: UT in Austin, and I’ll only go if it is financially impossible to pay for Rice in the end
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: Definitely need to show extraordinary accomplishments… there are so many incredibly smart people with many assets, so definitely need to do anything that can help

Congratulations to everyone got accepted! I hope to see you all here next fall! Just a note: People keep saying which program they were “accepted into,” but Rice doesn’t work that way. They like you to list a major on your application, but that has no bearing on your future at Rice.
