Offical June Act English Section Thread

was pretty easy except for some exceptions. Some questions did trip me up. post some questions!

There was a question where you could put ;however, or ,however,…i think it was in the 50’s.

I thought it wasn’t bad, but I was conflicted between comma, and semi colon on almost every one that had both as a option. I usually picked comma though, because I just thought they were making it seem more complicated than it really was.

I believe the however one was ;however. It just felt slightly better to me. The one with dogs and barking, was it “…dogs: they bark.”?

Did you guys average more “no change” than normal?

i got ;however and dogs: they bark

i would say there was a pretty usual amount of no change, maybe a few more

hey so on the passage about the bike share program, the first question was like “blah blah blah __ its public transportation by adding a bike-share program.” I was conflicted on two answers, augmented or elaborated. Was it augmented? This was the only question that I did not get.

i put ;however, and i forgot about the dog one. How about the last passage where it asks you to move the couple of sentences to where it would be better fitted. I put B, I think it was the sencond paragraph third sentence

yes, augmented means to add or extent

i put elaborated and told myself it was is another word to expand. kind of how you would expand on your sentence (explain). They were trying to expand their transportation system.

i put elaborated, because they implemented something new like an extension(to public transportation). augmented was like changing whats was already there.

i put at point B… dont remember where that was exactly. might have been 2nd paragraph 3rd sentence

I put augmented. Elaborated and adorned during make sense to me in the context of the sentence.

It’s augmented. I don’t think elaborated can be used as a verb in that specific way. It just sounds wrong to me.

elaborated past participle, past tense of e·lab·o·rate (Verb)
Verb

Develop or present (a theory, policy, or system) in detail.
Add more detail concerning what has already been said: “he would not elaborate on his news”.

Was one of the answers “independently”? Not sure what passage that was but it sounded weird with “independently of”. I put “independently” because none of the other answers worked.

^ Not sure if you’re supporting or refuting elaborated, but I think that definition makes it really sketchy for the correct answer. Augmented is adding on something; they added on the bike-share program. It wasn’t so much development as an addition.

Now that i think of it, it might have been augmented. They increased the size (Definition) of the oublic transportation system. I didnt have any answers with colons in them. I had about like 3 answers that were delete the underlined phrase.

I can’t believe I put “effected” instead of “affected.” I realized how dumb I was about 20 seconds after the test ended. I was too scared to go back and change it…
