Offical UCLA 2014 Hopefuls

^I know. I was considering it, with ELC and all, but the campus was filthy, and the students from my highschool who go there that I met up with sounded miserable, going on about how in some of their classes, they have to sit on the floor because they are so full, tuition hikes, bad roommates. Very offputting.

Wow, I hadn’t heard that about the actual experience, but it confirms my decision not to apply was right. :stuck_out_tongue: Yeah, I got in because of ELC too, but the only ELC place I applied to was Davis (which I love, though I haven’t visited…it looks gorgeous in pictures, though, and all of my friends who go there are SO happy there.)

Hahaha. It’s funny how similar we are. The only ELC place I applied to as well was Davis, as I am about 50 minutes away from it. If there’s any place that most of my friends and the top students of my school go to, it’s Davis. They all love it there so much. Even though it’s the closest school to me that I applied to, I haven’t visited it either. I drive by it often when I go to the Bay Area, San Francisco, and all those places, and it looks wonderful. And they have that wonderful Arboretum I wouldn’t mind living in. :p

Once all my applications are done (I’m submitting my second to last supplement right now!) and senioritis fully kicks in, I think I’ll go visit it. And if I’m admitted to Stanford, Yale, Brown, etc., then I’ll go visit them.

That’s so weird; most of the top students from my school and my friends go to Davis as well! Even one of our valedictorians went there. Despite being my safety school, it’s one of my top choices; I really love it! Oh, and I can’t believe you mentioned the Arboretum…it’s one of the many things I really really love about Davis. I’m really into nature (especially lakes!), so the Arboretum seems like a dream to me!

Ooh, which two apps do you have left to submit? And yeah, I’m definitely visiting all the places I get into over spring break (and maybe an extra week off of school if I get into most of the places I applied to!)

Hahaah. Most of the valedictorians go to Davis here as well! We also have a very large Mormon population, so lots go to Bringham Young University.
Yeah, I was quite happy with my college list, because if it comes down to it, I would not mind at all going to Davis, or any of the schools on them.
I too am a Nature-adoring person! I guess the most apparent way it has manifested itself is in my large collection of housepants. Hahaha. I guess the most unique thing about me.

I’ve already submitted my application itself to all my schools. And I have already submitted the supplement to Brown, Stanford, and Yale. I JUST submitted the supplement to Pomona College, and I have Uni of Chicago left to do. I left almost all of it to last minute! But its deadline is tomorrow at midnight… So if I can’t finish it today, at least I’ll have a day more… :)

We have a couple of Mormons who are set on BYU too! XD And that’s so cool that you’re also nature-adoring; a large collection of houseplants sounds awesome. I wrote one of my UC essays and my Yale and Princeton supplemental essays on my connection to nature. lol.

Aww, U of Chicago has a really long and tough supplement too, right? :-/

EDIT: 700th post! Woot!

I’m also applying to Cal, UCSD, UCI, UCSC, and UCD from the UC system, and Northwestern, UChicago, Columbia, Barnard, NYU, and Boston U. I just submitted my Barnard and Northwestern apps, and now I have to submit NYU and finish UChicago. >.>

^I feel for you :p

Univeristy of Chicago’s supplement is somewhat long. >.< Their essay prompts are so unique that I can’t stick in my other essays that I used for Stanford and Yale, 'cause I really liked them. I might just end up using it and going with the “your own prompt” prompt. Eh.

I wrote about the houseplants I would bring to Stanford in my Roommate essay. It was pretty cool. Hahah. And in my Yale supplement essay, I think I threw it in in an essay about how I love academic discovery and research and how I’ve induced them to bloom and root. Hahahaha. They’re a part of me  However, I don’t think they’d weather good in cold Chicago, if I go there.

^I had an essay written for the second prompt for the UChicago supplement, but I decided to scrap it this morning because I had a better idea for one of the other prompts. I hope I can finish it in time.

Your Yale supplement actually sounds perfect for UChicago. They’re all about the academic discovery there. :P

If you have a really good essay for Yale or Stanford, it probably wouldn’t hurt to go with “your own prompt”. That’s what I did for Princeton anyway. :)

So, what does everyone want to do as future careers?

Yeah, they are, and from what I’ve seen, they like creative writing. And I doubt I could quickly write another high-caliber essay in a day. So I might as well. Thanks, you two.

My majors are all in science. But they range just a little.

For Berkeley, it was Molecular and Cell Biology- Neurbiology track
For LA, it was Psychobiology
San Deigo- Human Biology
Davis- Neurology, Physiology and Sciences
Stanford- Human Biology
Yale- Cognitive Science
Brown- Human Biology- Neurobiology track
University of Chicago- Biology, Neuroscience, Neurobiology-type thing
Pomona College- Biology & Chemistry - pre-med type thing.

All in all, Pre-med. :)

Gah, those are scary majors (IMO). XD

Mine were:

USC - Screenwriting (English was my second choice on the app, but I’ve since changed my mind and would major in American Studies or Communications if I didn’t get into Screenwriting)
UCLA - English (but I’m going to try to get into the Film major, and I don’t think I’d stick with English anyway if I didn’t get into Film)
UC Berkeley - English, I think?
UC Davis - American Studies
Stanford - American Studies
Yale - American Studies
Northwestern - Radio/TV/Film
Princeton - Art and Archaeology

^Arts and Archaeology sounds like it would be really, really interesting! I personally would consider taking an elective course in it if whatever uni I go to offers it.

Yeah, Neuroscience itself is a somewhat daunting science. So enigmatic and complex, but so important. So much to research and look into, but you really need a specialized education to do so… I guess that’s whats attracted me to it in the first place. Hahah.

Yeah, it does sound interesting! I want to complete the American Studies certificate program at Princeton too if I go there. (Could you tell that I’m into American Studies? No? Wow…o_O)

So, do you know what you specifically want to do in the field of neuroscience upon graduation?

I’m leaning toward Scientific Research… more of diseases and conditons specialist. I find the psychology apsect of it very interesting. How the physical composition and antomy of the brain can influence the psychology of a person. >_>

What attracts you to American Studies, et cetera?

Neuroscience’s connection to psychology is definitely interesting! I’m attracted to American Studies because, as an aspiring screenwriter, I want to gain an in-depth understanding of the American society for which and about which I will be writing. I also want to study the effects media has on society so I can make sociologically-informed decisions in my career.

When you say “et cetera”, do you mean “how did I get into screenwriting/TV/film” too?

By the way, you spell out “et cetera”!! I thought I was the only one who did that. :D

I’m a total politics nerd, so the plan right now is to get my law degree and then head to Washington. :D

I took an American Government class at a local community college, and it was really interesting. I can tie it back to like… everything! Haha. Or else, that’s the only exposure I’ve had to it. But very cool. Any particular law school in mind?

Man, Eiffel! Davis, Arboretum, “et cetera”, Chinese food, dislike of UCSB, what more!? You’re like an online reflection. :p

I know! I’m going to start calling you Mirror. By the way, are you a guy or girl? (Just how much of a mirror are you? o_o)

Sadly, I’m a guy, so I guess not a spitting image of you. :stuck_out_tongue:
But still! :D
