Offical UCLA 2014 Hopefuls

Haha, well, I am pangender, so I consider myself both a girl and a guy, so Mirror can still be your name. ;)

@drpvv From the research I’ve done so far (and it is very very little), I like Georgetown Law a lot. I kind of can’t think about applying to law school now, though. Too traumatized by undergraduate apps.

^Yeah, I wouldn’t bother yourself with it too much now. I’m already aware of the 2% acceptance rates at all the great medical schools, so I don’t bother thinking about it. xP

^^Well, if we get into that whole thing, I am gay :p

Ah! Well, I’m bi. Close, but no cigar. :D

Indeed, close!

Sigh. I should stop procrastinating and go write my Uni of Chicago essays…
Don’t talk to me if I post on here until tomorrow! :p

Aww, okay, I’ll be quiet now. :frowning: Good luck with those nasty UChicago essays. Hope to talk to you tomorrow! :)

I hate when you click on a thread that you are going to respond to, but a whole conversation has already happened. And then you feel awkward posting what you were going to post…

Hey guys, I’m also a UCLA hopeful. I’m a white female from the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. UCLA was probably my biggest reach, though, so I’m NOT expecting to get in. I probably shouldn’t have even applied, because I’m out of state and wouldn’t even be able to afford it. XD

Like Eiffel, I also hope to major in Film if I get in. Back up is English/Communications.

My other schools:
USC (1st Film Production, 2nd Film Critical Studies, even Undeclared would be great)
NYU (Cinema Studies)
Northwestern (Radio/TV/Film)
Carnegie Mellon (English/Creative Writing, minor: Film/Media)
University of Wisconsin-Madison (safety and only school I’ve heard from, Communication Arts with a concentration in Film/TV)

Welcome, guys! So, to veer off college talk, what kind of movies/TV do you guys like?

I’m back! I SUBMITTED EVERYTHING!

I was meant to submit it earlier last night, like 1 or 2 am, but I ended up staying up until 8 am! But it’s all over with now, and the waiting begins >.<

Yay! Congrats! I bet it feels like a huge weight has been lifted off your shoulders. But the wait…yeah. :-/ And the interviews…

@ Kiley:]
great SAT’s!!
u have a pretty good chance
good luck…
btw what instrument do u play marching band?
im an alto sax :)

It feels nice. I mostly feel like just lazing around. But I should start on scholarship essays, among other things. I had to get a last piece of mail postmarked by today, so I spent my morning driving around trying to find an open post office. I had to go to 3 of them >.<

And the interviews…

Anyways, hello everyone, kiley, dream, teknos!

So, what scholarship essays are you doing? I haven’t really thought much about it, though I probably should. I just can’t seem to find any yet that fit me. :-/ Are yours science-specific?

Also, if you win scholarships, doesn’t that get deducted from your financial aid package?

I can’t seem to find any larger ones, as I don’t really even know where to look. So I’m doing all the ones I can specific to my high school. There’s two $20,000 ones, and I’m only against my hs pool, so hopefully I can crank out a worthwhile essay. One year, the ASB President took away $55,000! No one else got any. Hahah.

I know that by the end of the year, you need to report all scholarship earnings, so they must incorporate it.

Whoa, you actually have ones inside your school for that much money? That’s awesome. I wonder if my high school does…I’ve never heard anything about it. :-/

Anyway, enough college talk, I’ll ask everyone again: what kind of TV/movies do you like? XD

I really like cult classics, exploitation films, horror… black comedies, westerns, classics… foreign… a lot of random genre stuff. Some of my favorites are The Lives of Others, Let the Right One In, American Beauty, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Yi Yi, The Graduate, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Evil Dead, Pulp Fiction, The Good The Bad and The Ugly, A Clockwork Orange, The Usual Suspects… a lot, but I think that’s a good random sample. I love anything by the Coens, the Nolans, the Raimis, Gondry, Kaufman, Tarantino… lots.

As far as TV, I love HBO shows. My favorite show is Six Feet Under. I also like Arrested Development, Breaking Bad, Doctor Who, Firefly, Entourage, Pushing Daisies, Mad Men… lots.

I never get around to watching much TV, but when I do, it’s always something mind-numbing, like Spongebob, or the Simpsons, or Family Guy, Futurama. Hahaha. However, my all-time favorite TV show is Arrested Development. So ingenious and witty!

Movies are along the same tangent. I really like Ratatouille, some bollywood films, or even a good emotion-stirring film. :)

Arrested Development is AMAZING. It’s one of my favorite shows.

And re:scholarships- they do get deducted from your financial aid package, but colleges usually try to deduct them from loans rather than grants or work study, which means getting scholarships reduces your debt.

@teknos
Thanks! And I played trombone in marching band and french horn in wind ensemble. (:

And about movies, I’m watching Invictus right now for some comparative gov homework, and I really like it! Best homework assignment in awhile.

I still have to finish my UCLA nursing application due the 15th. I’m such a slacker.
