In 2 weeks or so, there will be elections for a school volunteering organization and I am an active member in this club. I also desperately need a leadership position!

Here is my predicament:

2 spots available to me (sophomore) :

Secretary/Treasurer (1 position available)
Historian (2 positions available, top 2 who get votes will get positions)

I would like to do any of those two and have no preference whatsoever for any, but I would seriously like to gain a position badly!

I think there are around 100-150 students in it, of which maybe 10 for those 3 positions will do all the paperwork and everything to the end to contend for a spot.

Questions: Are my numbers accurate in terms or projections, etc?
I have done lots of analysis and deliberating and here's my main question:
Which spot should I run for to maximize my chances of winning?

Y'all got any other tips in general about elections to help me bag myself a spot?

If you haven't had a position before, go with historian. let your classmates get to know you, and do a good job and impress them. Then next year run for VP or secretary or something. For your speech, I have found that funny speeches work best. Take a lot of time to craft the perfect speech and practice it.

I'm pretty much a nobody (transferred to my new school this year), but there will be no speeches held (I don't think so) and only our posters will be displayed (strict guidelines here!)

I am well aware of those people who are extremely popular or goofballs and manage to pull off every officer position because of this. Unfortunately, I am shy and not very outgoing so I usually don't do that :(

Would someone like to do some sort of a mathematical analysis to find out which one more people are likely to apply for? Which one should I apply for to make sure that I win?

I understand your points and will promote myself, but there is always that one position which will draw more applicants and I was wondering which one it would be.

Can anyone just give an idea about which position more people will apply to considering the fact that there is only 1 secretary/treasurer and 2 historians?

Everyone is greedy for officer positions at my school...

We don't know the current state of affairs at your school, or the competitiveness of the candidates, or the willingness of students to participate in a quasi-figurehead regime such as club leadership.

"Mathematical analysis" indicates that you will face heavy competition on any position run, and that the odds of winning seem slim given social factors, and campaigning opportunities available.

Or... lose the election and during the next officer meeting, stage a coup with armed mercenaries in the name of the "People of (insert your school name here)". Arrest the President, the Vice President, and most members of the elected cabinet. Leave the necessary functionaries to keep the government running... Then secure the officers, and lead your troops and secure: 1. Schoolwide broadcast Communications 2. The organization treasury (3. and armory depending on your organization type). Announce a general meeting to all members and declare yourself as legitimate leader in the face of mismanagement from the current administration. Begin a show trial of key former leaders and have them found guilty by rigged jury and revoke their memberships... Then give key positions to friends and puppetfigures.
