Good Luck & prayers to everyone!

Please pay attention to your mail everyone~!! DDJones, we have had the same issues with our mail carrier. Thank goodness we are not waiting on acceptance letters this year, but last year we paid extra attention to the mail. And, I can tell you that I don't think things are any better this year!! I sent a package of goodies to my freshman son on Tues (12/5) for him to share with buddies for finals. As of today, he has still not received it! And, I paid for 2-3 day priority mail. I did not, however, pay for tracking, insurance, or delivery confirmation. There was nothing valuable--just homemade cookies and other goodies. But, this is a lesson on paying attention to the mail. (I am So very disappointed for him and his friends!) Good Luck to everyone!!!!

WAIT. Chisoxgirl, how do you know they are sending the letters out the 12th?!

Leadership positions: Polish Women's of Alliance -- Secretary of my regional grou

^ thats awesome...

I think you're in pretty good shape, Chisoxgirl--you do have good extracurriculars, and the scores, GPA and rank look mighty strong...

And now, to echo alyssiann--WAIT! How do you know they are sending the lettters out the 12th? Believe me, I want you to be right--but how do you know?

'Tis what I've heard from quite a few people who seem to just "know" these things... I wouldn't say that I'm completely sure, but it sounds right. My question is, do they stagger how they send them so everyone gets them at the same time (ex. send Cali letters before Ill letters) or do they just send them all at once. Also, do we know what kind of envelope accept/rejects come in? lol

I am sooo nervous! eek haha

Accepts come in big envelopes that say "welcome home," i believe

And we're not going to think about rejects :-)

"And we're not going to think about rejects :-)"

Good attitude!! I am sooo freaking out though. I have a huge Bio test tomorrow morning, and I can't study because all I'm thinking about is this. I can't believe they send the acceptances in huge envelopes... I might die from anticipation before I get my letter, no joke, even though I'm applying to 9 other schools in addition to ND.

lol yeah so am i but im not really worried i think with my 31 act im pretty much guaranteed a deferral (rejection is not an option lol) but i just took the ACT again saturday and i felt really well about it! better than any other one!!! :) im excited to get my score back and when i get deferred im sending it to ND immediately!! ahhh!

Doesn't anyone think we should start a new thread for decisions only when the time comes? Five pages of stats and speculation is a bit much already.

hahahah... quinn wants only the good stuff

cant blame you

I'm absolutely, positively sure I will not be able to concentrate in school at all this week...if they're mailed Tuesday first thing, then it could be here in Chicagoland Wednesday....I have to work right after school Thursday and my parents are not allowed to check the mail this week...ahhhh

hahhaha.... dont go to crazy quinnn

you will find out soon enough

quinn, I know how you feel. My dad said if they mail them early on Tuesday, then there's a possibility that they could be in Chicago by Wednesday. That makes me excited & scared at the same time! yikes, I need to chill out, haha.

Why are you guys so certain they will be mailed on Tuesday?

am I missing something here?

That's just what I've heard from a few sources. I could be wrong, I dunno.

EA decisions are not being mailed out until at least the end of the week. Just talked to a couple of people at the university, one in admissions, one in another department who has friends in admissions--both said the mailout date appears to be the 16th. That is Saturday. This means Chicago people will probably hear on the 18th, the rest of us later.

Same thing as happened last time, when my son got in. Wishful thinking rumors circulated on the board, got people's hopes up, and then the stuff didn't come until the very last minute--for people from the west coast, it was even later...

Sorry, folks, it's not happening this week...

By the way, does anybody find this thread to be incredibly depressing?!

This is the most pessimistic I've felt about my daughter's chances....

But... DDjones, the letter from ND said to call if you don't receive it by the 19th. Since mail isn't delivered on Sunday, and if they send them out on Saturday, there's no way everyone would get them by the 19th. It makes sense for them to be mailed out tomorrow. That way, if you don't get it in a week, then you call about it.

ChiSoxGirl, I so wish you were right! I so wish our logic would rule here. But it doesn't.

I even went so far as to double-check with my friend, who is an ND alum and business manager of the college of science. He double-checked himself and said they hoped to get the letters all printed out by Friday afternoon, and get them in the mail by Saturday, the 16th. I also called the admissions office myself, for good measure.

That's just the way it is...believe me, I wish we'd hear earlier.

But this isn't the first time I've been through this as a parent, or the first time going through this on the boards. Same exact thing happened last time. People on the boards thought of the logical timeline to get things out for everyone to get them by the date they specify you should call them back. They did not get them out by the date we all logically assumed it would be.

We live in the Midwest, and my son got his letter on the date they specified to call if we hadn't heard--as I think about it, it may well have been the day after the date they specified. People on the boards from the coast got their letters 3-4 days after the stated "call us after this date" deadline.

Hate to bear bad news--although it really isn't bad news, just inconvenient news. But the facts are the facts. Our logic of the way we think things should be will not come into play. Nor did it for the high school class of 2005.

Looking at it from the perspective of the admissions office, particularly given the volume of EA apps this year.... If it takes an extra day or two longer, and they have to start fielding phone calls, it is a hassle for them and us, perhaps, but certainly livable. In the scheme of things, a few years from now, a few days is going to be statistically irrelevant.

If, however, they rush the mailing and screw up letters--maybe sending an acceptance letter to someone whose decision was deferred, or sending a rejection to someone who was accepted--that is a real disaster for them!

Remember, they have just sat down and individually reviewed nearly 4,000 early application files, with transcripts, letters, EC's and all. They have sat around tables and discussed them. Once the initial round of decisions are made, all deferred or rejected legacy files are personally reviewed one last time by Dan Saracino. Mind you, also, that they didn't even start reviewing the pile till all apps were in at the beginning of November. They then have to make sure the mailing pieces--all 4,000 of them--are correct in their contents, correctly addressed and properly stuffed.

It isn't like they are sitting around being lazy or anything. There's just that much to do...and that much to double-check. I trust my friend to have checked with the office and gotten it right. And I've called them myself as well--what are they going to do, trace my call?

For the sake of everyone's sanity, I'm telling you we have to dispel the idea that we're going to be seeing letters this week, because we are definitely not....
