Congrats Kr123 and whsswim--I feel like you are friends (you, too, stlmom, sunshadow, chillin, irish, cali?--and all of those I can't name right now)... I am thrilled to see so many of you having gotten in! :)

We've been at this celebration thing since Saturday...now a touch of the "how are we going to pay for it" anxiety is kicking in, until I think about the reasons why my daughter wants to be at Notre Dame and the reasons why she should, and I just have faith it will work out. I've been there myself, I know what this opportunity means. We couldn't live with ourselves if we didn't let her have it. I didn't have to look through any catalogs to know it was the perfect fit for her. Neither did she....

Other cool part of this is being able to tell my alumni friends, many of whom are great people that I haven't been in all that much contact with for years. I had my oldest at a relatively young age for a female graduate of the class of 1984. My second, the one who just got in, is closer in age to the oldest kids of my ND friends. Most of them, it seems, are juniors in high school like chillin or manutd. Their parents are fretting right now. We're two for two--not like we'd planned that--getting kids in, and our third one isn't on deck for eight years (thank GOD!). It's kind of neat to be able to help out my great friends of a generation ago with the process of getting in; as well as experiencing ND not as students any longer, but as parents. I've rekindled all kinds of relationships the last two years.

When the excitement first lets up, there's a little bit of a let-down, inherent to any experience of feeling that stressed for so long, then that intensely elated. The cool thing is I'm in the next phase now, which is realizing that this really is a good fit for my daughter--so that if I'm going to have to give her up, which is going to be hell as we are so close, it may as well be to people I trust. It's going to be unbelievably hard to let her go...

Ah, the emotional roller-coaster that is parenting.

Nice job KR!!!!!!!!!!

WahooooooooO!!!

I told you you would get in!!!

Congrats to everyone.....

Wow has anyone been rejected yet???

*Decision: Accepted *

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2200, 700 Verbal, 770 Math, 730 Verbal
[] SAT IIs: Chemistry: 800, Math IIC: 780, Biology E-- 770, Korean w/Listening -- 790
[] ACT: none
[] GPA: 3.55 UW, 3.7 something if you count band, 4.29 W (yeah a bit low)
[li] Rank: 23/285 (Top 8%)
[/li]

[] Other stats:
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Awesome and sincere, straight from the heart. I chose topic 2 (Show the brilliance of the simple in your life) btw. PM me if you want to read it.
[] Teacher Recs: 1 From Chemistry Ap teacher -- he came to thank me for letting him write the rec before I came to thank him (infer for yourself)
[] Counselor Rec: Didn't see -- but I'm guessing it was good.
[] Hook (if any): All-State Band + All-State Orchestra for 3 years, Region, County Band for all 4 years, section leader in all of them + Marching Band seection leader for 2 years + tons and tons of music related volunteers that were invitation only
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: New Jersey
[] School Type: Public, fairly competitive
[] Ethnicity: Korean (Permanent Resident)
[] Gender: Male
[] major strength/weakness: SAT II's, Awesome EC's, relatively good SAT
[] why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered: Seriously, I didn't really expect this one...I always heard that EA at ND was difficult. I thought low rank, average SAT would not let me in...also the fact that I didn't show that much interest in the school...but I guess sincere essays and music hooks are enough.
[] going to attend? Unfortunately unable to. ND was my 2nd choice, but I got accepted into Johns Hopkins University ED, so I am officially bound to JHU.
[/ul]Other Factors: I really would have loved to be in the Marching Band...but I might have felt a little out of place considering I'm atheist. But I definitely would have gone here if it wasn't for Hopkins.

I know everyone going here is truly passionate -- and unfortunately, I won't be able to join. I know you guys will have a great time at ND.
