hey i have a little problem with submitting to intel sts. one of my mentors is encouraging me to submit the work, but another one is telling me to wait until it is published or closer to being published. Does Intel contact the lab with information or anything. I just don't want to upset any of my mentors. let me know what you think.

It can only be submitted as senior, so either way, if you are now a senior, it must be submitted now or then it is no longer eligible for submission/

i hope the typo wont kill me. How much does the paper count

typos dont matter too much, its a 20 page paper, 1 typo wont do anything.

any1 kno if intel contacts ur lab or not? by phone or email?

Ive heard they do contact the lab sometimes.
The problem is the typo is y instead of your (something of taht sort). I had it right on the word document but it got messed up when i converetd to a pdf. So annoying

I just found this. I submitted a paper in engineering back in the end of October. Good luck to everyone.

I sent to mat science. What was ur engineering project?

done with project. mission success! good luck to everybody. what a tiring process.

lol come to chat room stscc to talk about sts

Mailed it by FedEx last night, was delivered early this morning. SO happy!

Anyone else submitting an Earth or Planetary Science one?

Also - does anyone know if gender/race play a role in selecting the winners/finalists?

I dont think it makes a difference. They will pick who they think will make the best scientist, regardless of race/gender etc. I could be wrong.

I'm sure that's how they pick, like, the top three, but I was wondering about the rest of it, especially since I don't remember there being a section for that on the initial application. Maybe it's something they ask after you make semi's...

Are there any data as to the distribution of the projects submitted by category? As in, X% were math, Y% were bio, etc.?

i dont thin kpeople have that much data on intel semis.

People could have that much data if you go to

and count those ~1200 semifinalists, deduce a category from their title, and aggregate it.

I hope someone sees this and has the time to do it.

how do u 'guess' the categoriese
like f/e my paper is titled improving the feasibility of avalanche gain x-ray detectors.
Mine isnt biomed or engineering.

Typos....ahhh!

lol .

mine arrived Tuesday morning!
yey

do we get notificaiton from Intel? or do we just wait until the semifinalists and finalists are announced?

I dont think they notify u for semis (and if they do its like a day b4). For finalists, I think they come a lil b4 thoug.
