Official 2008 INTEL STS Thread

im not sure semis get notified at all. i remember last yr, one kid at my school spent an hr refreshing the intel page to see who won. does the website crash every yr with so many ppl logging on?

damn...I didnt have enough time to go back and put page numbers under my research paper, or put anything more than my name under the project's title...can it hurt me?

did u put ur name ont eh top right corner of each page?
send it to me

they don't annouce semifinalist what???? no way, otherwise how would you know if you are semi or not?

He means that they announce all of the semifinalists online, but they don't send you a personal notification.

I didn't put page numbers or anything else other than my name under the title. shrug

correct.
Wait u didnt put ur name in upper right corner?

Yes, I did. I just didn't put page numbers.

oh not that bad.
I dont know how strict they are with teh technicalities.

Since Intel results come out after most college deadlines, how do you let colleges know if you won? Do we just call them and say, hey just to let you know I won intel?

i thin kintel goes to the colleges and tells thim (the competitive ones).
The colleges definitely check regardless.

The savvy colleges keep up with the major competitions. DS won an award and a trip to a college for a competition; one of that school's competitors sent DS a letter within three days of the results being released to the effect of, "We know you're going to be at X for Y competition, but don't forget, we really like students with your abilities...please remember us when you apply to schools!" We were quite impressed.

All that said, if I won a big award after January 1st, I would be forwarding an email and/or love note to the schools where I'd applied (including those who had already accepted me).

They definitely notice. It's a huge deal - and a LOT of scholarship money.

Hey guys, I'm going to ask a stupid qs now. How do you know that your Intel Apps got accepted? I ony got a partially filled app from my mentor which I mailed to Intel. Then my metor filled out the whole apps and faxed to the Intel office. Later on I learned that they dont accpet faxed forms.
What do I do now? I dont find any phone number on the home page. Is there any other phone number where I can call?

i got on friday a postcard saying they received my completed application. I dont konw of any number, though it doesnt hurt to find out.

Really? Oh boy! I didnt any postcard from INTEL. Has everyone gotten postcard from Intel? Now I'm almost sure that I screwed up.
what to do now?

calm down. Where do u live? I got mine in a day early, so mayb they got to it first. They mailed mine on the 20th I think.

Thnx Math. I live in NY. Hopefully I will hear soemthing this week.

k good luck.

Hey now that college apps are out of the way, I wanted to rebump this as the results are coming out soon? Mid January?

Anyway...i heard a rumour that if STS is considering you for a finalist spot they will contact your teachers/mentor for more information about the project. Any veteran can shed light on this?

ive heard they frequently contact professors and labs to get more information/validate claims on the application and paper. But didn't hear that this is for people considered for finalist status.
