Essay:
My life experiences which can be described as considerably changing it are few. This is not due to my interactions with the world having no effect on myself, but rather because my experiences are part of a whole, seemingly melding into one another and into my existence. They are not single and definite events, and are therefore difficult to write about without turning any essay into a mere collection of loosely connected anecdotes. The goddess Fortuna, however, has smiled on me, for the experience that has affected my life the most (and which will continue to affect it as I move through college) has a relatively clear beginning and ending. That experience was the meeting, falling for, and eventual abandonment by someone of the name of Lotta, and it will motivate me on the way to the top of the academic curriculum of whichever institution I go to, UF or otherwise.

I met Lotta many years ago, in a place with a lack of bricks and mortars. We quickly became friends, and had many talks which would involve our problems, feelings, anecdotes, and whatever else was in our minds at the time we happened to see each other. Whether we sought to multiply happiness or to mitigate sorrows, we were always there for each other, and I eventually realized that though I loved Lotta as more than as a friend. And when I told her, and when my feelings were returned, and when we kissed, and when I slept through the night with a smile on my face, it was the happiest of the days I have seen yet; an impressive feat considering she lived in Vrnskvldsvik, Sweden, while I lived in Miami, Florida.

We saw each other daily through the oldest and most adept form of telepresence yet devised by the humanity, the mind. And though the time we spent together had sorrows as well as joys, it was the only period of my life I can describe as not only content, but happy. However, in the words of Frost, "nothing gold can stay." And so my eden sank to grief, for then came the day Lotta grew distant, and so it followed that she revealed she no longer held feelings for me, and so it concluded that I lost my partner, lover, best and one of my few friends all at once. Frost may have said that it is the fate of beautiful things to disappear, but I, like Romeo, shall defy the stars by sheer willpower. The world has shrunk much in the last millennium; communications are instantaneous and cheap, and travel across continents takes only enough money and a few hours. How hard, do I wonder, would it be to find a single person with all the resources of a university graduate adult?

And here it is that this experience will affect my college experience. I will not be dating, of course, but far more importantly, I will be pushing myself past any limit and reservation I could have in order to achieve my goal. Of could have chosen any number of other ways to make profit other than academia. If my goal was simply to earn funds enough for travel, I could easily have dropped out of school and worked to save money while living at home. But that would have gone against everything I am. I am a scholar with a love for education, and anything less than to continue studying would have been a violation of Polonius's famous maxim, "to thine ownself be true." And considering one of the reasons I love Lotta is because she loved me for whom I am, if I should I change I would have missed the point entirely.

i cant believe 28000 people applied, what was the acceptance rate this year?

The acceptance rate was about 35%

The incoming class boasts a very high SAT range:

2007 = 1210 - 1400 for the admitted students

2008 = 1240 -1410 for the admtted students

Yield Rate should be well over 60%. Also keep in perspective there is a difference between the "Admitted Students", and the students who actually "Enroll".

Here is the link to back up my claim:

One vignette in order to add to the picture that is becoming this year's admissions:

An acquaintance of mine, Florida resident, private prep school, applied to UF by Nov 1, requested fall and was admitted for Spring. Meanwhile, he was accepted no questions asked for Michigan. Several others from my school were rejected with 1300+ SAT's and 3.8-4.1 UF GPA's

Is your friend willing to pay OOS tuition at Michigan? I have a friend that was accepted at Penn State, asked for no finaid in application, willing to pay the $35,000. Did not apply to UF. Lower stats that some of your friends that were not accepted. Wouldn't have looked good if rejected. Similar schools in size and ranking. About $100,000 difference over four years. Some schools will accept full paying OOS students at the expense of local talent for the sake of "diversity."

I'm not sure, but I don't believe his willing to pay 100%

Did you guys notice:

There has been 14 pages of people talking about their acceptance or denial. Alot more activity than last year.

Last year was like 6 pages for the official Acceptance thread.

That's good. Back on December I complained about where was everybody.
