Official 2009 Berkeley Appeals Thread.

Hi everyone. I wanted to create a thread for all us Berkeley transfers who were rejected and have put in appeals.

My appeal has been updated on my Berkeley app to show that it has been received.

My stats:

3.94 Gpa
Volunteer work and student government member.
Currently employed in a field related to my major.

If you've currently got an appeal letter into UCB post here. It would be fun to share stories and see what happens here soon!

Do appeals still go directly to their respective colleges? I’m appealing to COE.

What was your major? I was accepted with a 3.8 and mild volunteer work. No student government or work in a related field.

myBerkeleyApp hasn’t been updated yet. I sent in the appeal packet on Friday through Priority Mail, and it got there this morning (I checked usps.com). Should I be worried?

Hijynx, what was the basis for your appeal?

@ Hijynx. My major was political science. Its obviously impacted, but it seems like every major at Cal is. Congrats on getting in. Hopefully they’ll have a change of heart.

@ mar_mar, If you sent it Friday and hence it is postmarked Friday (which is what they request), I’m sure you’re fine. They got mine last Thursday morning and my site wasn’t updated until yesterday. I heard it takes 1-2 business days. If it hasn’t updated by the end of the week then I would give them a call.

Mar_mar, just out of curiosity, what were your stats and basis for appeal?

ahh I see…Thanks! I’m taking an independent bio course right now with 3 other students. We’re doing a research project and will be presenting it at SCAS and our abstract will be published. And I got 2 rec letters. My GPA now is a 3.4.

Also, in my personal statement I discussed my passion for medicine etc, but didn’t go into detail as to why I chose MEB, which was a mistake. So, in my appeal I also talked about my reasoning for MEB etc.

That’s pretty much it. I hope they’re solid enough.

I’m crossing my fingers for this!!!

Oh no, I did not appeal. I was accepted outright. I just can’t imagine you didn’t get in with a 4.0.

Soooo stressed! I’m checking that damn My Berkeley site 50 times a day. I can’t believe that more transfer students have not appealed to Cal. Maybe they just haven’t found this thread yet.

@ Mar_Mar… Your appeal sounds very strong. I wish you luck.

^ Yeah. Did you see the UCLA Appeals thread? Seems like there’s way more people appealing there…

Maybe they just don’t want to post that their appealing? LOL. I think that’s pretty personal. :X!

Good luck with everyone’s appeals! [:

@ anth8541, thanks!! I wish you the best of luck as well. Did you include any letters of recs too?

i sent mine appeal like two ago and it got updated on thursday tht they received it
Btw i am an admitted student unlike u guys… just wanted to change semester from spring to fall

@ marmar,

Yeah I included 6 letters of rec. 4 from my professors in the field (political science), one from my work supervisor, and one from my roommate who I have mentored in English.

I hope 6 doesn’t come across as overkill. Who knows…

sakurax I agree with you about maybe people not posting because it is personal. But personally I can’t make it to June 1st by myself. Its nice chatting this through with everyone.

Maybe a lot of people just don’t know about college confidential. Or maybe not that many people appealed to berkeley… LOL… wishful thinking ;)

I see…I sent in two, one from my bio professor and another from a counselor. And I agree! It does help discussing this with other people…

Man…let’s hope not that many people are appealing… better chance for us "]

I’m pretty sure that the appeal site says that you can only send in 2 letters of recommendation.

Ahh thank god. myBerkeleyApp was updated today…sigh, crosses fingers for the second time…if it’s meant to be, it’ll work out I hope :frowning: I’m gonna be anxious for the next couple of weeks…

oops, i didn’t send any letters of recommendation; just emails from my major and double major professors with current grades (all A’s). included my SAT scores too. 1900 without studying, not great, but better than my high school GPA value!

I’d be anxious too. I am anxious. I’m still waiting for Cal’s decision as well! [:

So good luck to everyone, this is our support group, hahaha.
