Official 2009 Berkeley Appeals Thread.

^ You mean your myberkeley online hasn’t updated yet?
Are you a UC-UC intertransfer?

Whoa, congrats vans! That’s awesome! Nice to know decisions are still being made. I wonder if L&S does any notifications by mail. Again, congrats!

I’m a community college transfer.

MyBerkeley did update; I wasn’t checking it every day, though. I thought that their June 15th deadline was similar to their May 30th deadline – everything posted at on that day. I hadn’t expected to hear from them sooner.

I got a nice, big folder with some paperwork and a Cal sticker. I’m a happy camper :)

I’m an inter UC transfer and yet still haven’t heard from Berk yet on my appeal! I applied to Haas…

Welcome to the thread, 080507…

UC intertransfer for Haas school for Business Administration

Hey people i have been watching all the talk about the appeals.
Im saccity9 major is ethnic studys trying to back door haas 3.9 gpa im a j.c transfer also still waiting… Here is some info i got from a student who attends berkeley that spoke to addm… For me i mailed my appeal off may 15 so that batch of appeals that came in during that time and after u wont get a desc… Till june 15th (dont quote me)… So they say. So relax and leave the myberkeley account alone for awhile have some summer fun… But i will say if they were gonna say no they would have by now i think. Sure would be messed up to wait all this time for a no… Atleast give us spring semester

i agree!~

my cousin is a student at berkeley and i asked her to ask admissions (since she does work-study) in admissions and she said that an admissions officer told her that some of them will probably not be released until june 15th, as their website claimed.
be patient! (:

saccity9 there is no backdoor into haas.

@saccity9

i actually mailed mine on may 15th. but i used express mail so they probably got it on the 16th. i heard my decision on june 1st early in the morning.

good luck to y’all

yeah i mailed mine the 15th, but some people on this thread sent it in then…and have heard back like zhuqi315.

I want to know already!! AHH. i can’t focus on finals because i want to know so bad!!!

everyone that applied to Haas on this thread has been rejected? Am I the only Haas waiting?

The way it works with the back door is i took the prereq for both majors applied for ethnic studies. After your in you petetion for haas alot of freshmen drop out or change to a easy major wich will open you up for spring by that time your right on track with haas because you have done the prereq and ready to take the upper division courses with the freshmen class during spring…they also cant tell u no if u want to double major your apart of the berkeley family…( if im wrong let me no)

Saccity9, I don’t know if it’s that easy to “backdoor.”
You have to get approval from the Dean of Haas and I don’t know if you could get that because there are a lot of people who would give anything to go to Haas. I know for the engineering program you can’t just “switch” to engineering you have to apply to the college (even if you’re already a Berkeley student) and I’m pretty sure that Haas is a least as, if not more, stringent about all that.

This is from Berkeley’s advising faq on double majors/simultaneous degrees:

How are simultaneous degrees different from a double major?

While a double major consists of two majors within one school or college, a simultaneous degree program consists of two majors from two different schools or colleges on this campus. For example, you might want to pursue simultaneous degrees in English (L&S) and in Architecture (College of Environmental Design). A student in this program earns two degrees, one from each school or college. L&S offers only the B.A. degree; some other schools and colleges on this campus offer the B.S. degree. If you are currently a College of Engineering student please click here.
What are the L&S requirements to complete a simultaneous degree or double major?

All Letters and Science breadth requirements must be completed.
No more than 2 upper division courses may be counted to complete requirements for both majors.
A minimum grade point average of 2.0 is required.
A major adviser for each major must approve the program. Simultaneous degrees additionally require the approval of the Dean of each college or school.
Double major applications should be submitted at least one semester prior to graduation. Simultaneous degree applications must be submitted at least two semesters prior to graduation.
Simultaneous degree applicants must pay special attention to all college unit and residence requirements.
A proposed planned program for a double major will not be approved if, according to the proposed program, the student will have completed more than 136 semester units prior to the last semester and enrollment in the last semester will extend his or her enrollment beyond nine semesters, or the equivalent, in all institutions attended. A proposed planned program may contain an unlimited number of units beyond the 120 semester units required for graduation on condition that all requirements for the double major will be completed within a maximum of nine semesters (or the equivalent) in all institutions attended.

[Double Major & Simultaneous Degrees](http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/faq/double.html)

Good luck trying to “backdoor.” If I were allowed to work on a simultaneous degree with Haas I would, but I bet so would a LOT of students and I doubt that I am special enough to get that privilege. Your backdoor may work, but I think it’s probable that it’s been attempted before and they already have some sort of rule/regulation in place about it.

Saccity9 its right on the Haas webstie: “Students admitted to UC Berkeley as junior transfers to the College of Letters & Science or other majors are NOT eligible to apply to the Haas Undergraduate Program.” Haas is one of the most competetive majors in the entire school. They are not going to just let you switch in like that and bypass the rigorous screening that they have for both freshmen and transfer admissions into the program.

Hmm…I delivered my appeal on May 11th, and haven’t heard. It’s looking like it’ll be a month before some of us hear back.

My Econ teacher told me something about rules and regulations. They are there to keep the majority of people from trying to do such things. But, you get in tight with faculty and let them know your goals, make them think you’re capable of doing what it is you intend, and anything is possible.

So… if you are truly trying to backdoor Haas, start hanging out at the Walter A. Haas side of school frequently and get to know professors and other faculty well. Good luck

exact sobizzle… after your in student there will show you the loop holes be cool with teachers and admissions people. nothing is impossible there humans who admitt you u just have to get them to let u in. thats y we are all appealing now we all have the gpa. we just didnt tell them what they wanted to hear or paint that perfect picture. ill apply and apply and appeal appeal till they let me in haas. and just keep running in to the right people every day… This world is based on connections and who u no

I don’t think any transfer student ever successfully “backdoored” their way into Haas. Not to sound like a ******, but how are you planning on getting into Haas if you didn’t even get in for ethnic studies?

I left 3 classes blank with no grades on my app dont ask me how(stupid) so that s what my appeal letter and new info was about on top of my spring semester grades. i just kinda said i made a mistake here are those grades and my spring grades. and im even more qualified then when i first sub my app the first time. no worries i take all responses. but ur right screw the haas talk focus on getting in first… good luck to all the haas appeals
