Official 2010 AP Self-Studying Thread

For anyone who will be self-studying for the 2010 AP Exams.

Post which APs you are self-studying and what study resources you are using.
Feel free to contribute and help each other out!
Also if you have any experience with self-studying any APs PLEASE PLEASE share it and your scores!

I'll be self-studying:
AP Human Geography - Barrons
AP Psychology - Barrons
AP Calculus BC, school only offers AB but teacher offers tutoring toward end of year*
AP Physics C: E&M, school only offers Mechanics*
AP English Language, school doesn't offer*

*I haven't started and don't know what resources I'll be using.
Just for contextual information, I'm an incoming junior.

cliffnotes.com is the way to go

I’m waiting to see if the exam schedule changes before committing to anything, but I’m either going to do comp gov or enviro, and whichever one I don’t self-study, I’ll do next year. My concern is that comp gov and French conflict, and I don’t want to have to deal with makeups again.

This is the exam schedule for next year…

[2010 Exam Dates](Higher Education Professionals | College Board)

^ My only conflict will be Physics C… yay. Haha

Physics C Mechanics (no E&M)
Physics B
Calc BC (if I got a 2 this year, I’ll just retake the test)

It’s the same as 2008 and 2009…looks like I’m self-studying enviro.

I think I will be self-studying AP Environmental but idk as of now. =]

any good sites that would help ppl like me and you self study for any AP?

I’ll probably self study GoPo and Euro, and use PR for gopo and modern european history for euro

Going to self-study: (And take the tests whenever I feel ready…end of Junior year, hopefully)
-Micro/Macro Economics
-Statistics
-Spanish Lit
+More?

In addition to (classes for next 2 years)
-Biology
-Spanish Language
-English Language
-Psychology
-English Lit
-Calculus AB (or BC)
-US Gov’t.
-Comparative Gov’t.

Manageable? I think so. I’m pretty sure that my current choices for self-study would be easy enough. I may also self-study comparative gov’t. …Maybe. I’m also considering Music Theory as an AP to take at school. I’m not sure of a major, but business is possible–so am I making the right choices?

Anyone have experience with Spanish Lit? Haven’t heard much about it. And what about the Economics/Stat courses? I heard those are light self-studies.

Self-studies for next year include:

-AP Micro
-AP Micro
-AP Env Sci
-AP Eng Lang (with AP Lit class)

LolUsers: My dad is an electrical engineer (I think, lol). It’s his specialty. Btw, what did you self-study again? And tell me the scores once you get them.

Hi mulberrypie :)

I studied AP Psychology this past year using Barron’s. I would recommend buying Princeton Review also, even though Barron’s covers pretty much what is on the test, reading both will ensure you’ve covered everything. On the test this year, there were a 3-4 questions I think not in Barron’s but that I read in Princeton Review :stuck_out_tongue:

My school only offers AP Calculus AB, but I took the BC exam. It’s really not a whole lot more, just make sure you have series down well. Don’t be like me and procrastinate too much either :)

Just wondering, does self-studying AP Human Geography really help?

^Hey! Thanks so much!! I really appreciate it!
About the AP Human Geography, I’m just self-studying because it’s an apparently easy AP and I reallllyy want to get National AP Scholar. My school doesn’t offer the class, so I can’t compare there. For the National AP Scholar award, I believe you need 8 AP Exams with a score of 4 or higher. It’s the only one I’ve actually started, and I have to say it’s actually pretty interesting. Idk if I addressed your question well enough, but if not feel free to ask me more :)

Thanks for the information on AP Human Geography…I’ll think about it if its supposedly an easy AP. The name sounds boring lol but I’m glad it’s interesting! I’m trying to get one of the AP Scholar awards also, so I’m trying to work hard on doing well on AP exams :p

My school doesn’t offer any AP courses so I have to self-study for all my exams. I’m self-studying for:
AP World History
AP U.S History
AP Euro History
AP Human Geography
AP Psychology
AP Biology
AP Chemistry
AP Economics
AP American Government
AP Environmental Science
AP Engish Lang & Comp
AP Art History
AP Statistics *Might not take it
AP Calculus BC

Oh and due to some stupid rule that the Ministry of Education came up with, I have to take my exams altogether in May 2010.
So which books are you guys one hundred percent certain will cover the test material thoroughly and get me a 5 or 4? And could you mention if you’re answering based on personal experience or not?

AP art history.

AP Biology - CliffsAP
AP English Language - CliffsAP
AP Human Geography - Barron’s
AP World History - Barron’s
AP Psychology - Barron’s
AP Economics - Princeton Review
AP US History - Amsco

For AP Biology, can I also recommend Barron’s? I took the class this year at school, but my teacher was out sick for half the year. Barron’s was like a mini-textbook in that it covered the details of the material really well and I think it really prepared me well for the exam. :)
