youngisleturk , dont be embarrashed about the other schools. We'll see but i bet that those on the ridiculous BC waitlist will get into schools that actually read applications, even if they are harder

Wow.

BC is really tough for RD this year (random also).

Some of you have some crazy stats, but got waitlisted or rejected.

I guess they weren't kidding about how much tougher RD would be with the increase in apps.

EDIT-bm, what do you mean "schools that actually read the apps"?

Yeah, to the rejected/ waitlisted people, could you guys please check the status of your financial aid application (if you applied) and tell the rest of us what it says? We've all been speculating whether what it says correlates to the decision. Btw, I'm completely astonished. You guys are all highly accomplished students and I'm sure you will be accepted into tons of wonderful other schools.. I myself was deferred EA so who knows what's going to happen now...

3-4 acceptances at Boston College High School

10-12 rejections/waitlist

merlin, i just wonder that since bc got 26,000 applications, how carefully they evaluated us. Who knows, but i hope they didn't just go by sats/gpa, and really read the essays/ecs... good luck to all

They go by how much $$$ you have. I bet if you took a survey, the people who were accepted are much better off than the people who were wait-listed.

So, basically, you have no basis for that statement.

They obviously didn't do that-look at the 2100+ kids in this thread that were rejected/wait-listed.

EDIT-Phoenix, where do you get that impression?

if I write a letter explaining how much I want to go there etc. will that have any effect or how about letter from alumn who donate money or will all this harm me

The decisions from my school: The people who requested financial aid were wait-listed while the people with a low GPA but were rich got accepted.

Anecdotal evidence at best.

I am not extremely proficient in statistics, but I do know that your impressions are not really valid.

No, they aren't based on financial aid. I'm an upper middle class white female from a very rich Midwestern town who didn't request financial aid. I was waitlisted. Here are my stats

GPA: 3.7 UW, 4.2 W
SAT: 800 W, 710 V, 720 M
ECS: Captain of two varsity sports, lots of writing/public speaking awards, tons of tutoring community service, and a million other things
Classes: 20 honors credits and 8 AP classes by the time I graduate
I was told my essays were amazing, I know my recs were exceptional, and I was deferred from Princeton ED. BC was supposed to be a safety, and since I'm into Michigan Honors it was somewhat irrelevant whether I got in here or not, but I'm fairly shocked to say the least.

This is insane.

A 2230 (1430) wait-listed?

How could you NOT get into BC if you got into Michigan Honors?

I'm not the person to ask. I kind of find it funny. BC has a history of not admitting people from the Midwest at all though, especially from my school. I called my GC and he thought it was pretty funny too. I'll send back my wait list card, but I don't really know what's up.

OMG, what happened this year?
I haven't received my decision yet. I am so worried. It's even hard to calm down my heart to study right now.

Why is it so painful to wait decision letters?

I am still waiting for many other schools, and the last ten days is so hard to kill. =[

My dd was rejected today:
700V 690M 710W; 720 lit SATII; 690 Math2C
3.8 UW, 4.3W, many college credits
2 varsity sports, world championship competitor in Irish dance, lots of community service
She is disappointed, but was mentally prepared for this, and will be OK.
There is a reason for everything- a silver lining in all adverse outcomes.
Best of luck to the rest of you!

LoL. Apparently the Tufts Syndrome has spread to BC this year.

Ofcourse....

But there is now way that some of the people from my school could have gotten in if they were not rich. There were people with 2.X GPAs and 17XX SAT scores who got in.

I was under the impression that BC is need-blind, but I may be wrong.

What tufts Syndrome?
Does tufts does the same thing?
omg, don't scare me. i applied tufts too

Tufts syndrome is when they reject people who they think are using them as a safety. People say that they assume they will get into 'better schools' so tufts is not their first choice and therefore the school rejects them to look after their yeild rate.

Someone may be able to explain it better than I can. I hope that makes sense (i just woke up heh).

Wow it seems some really impressive applicants have been waitlisted or rejected this year. I hope you get into your other choices, i am pretty hopeful you will have great options open to you still. I was going to say i am sure but hey i hate it when people just brush things off by saying 'im sure you will be fine'...although i really am pretty sure heh..

Michigan looks like a great school!

I'm thinking that the Tufts syndrome deal applies here, or I hope that it does. I'm waiting to hear from Northwestern in addition to a bunch of Ivies, Duke, etc...and if none of those work out, then I would be proud to be a wolverine! haha.
