Official 2010 Boston College Waitlist Thread

Your stats are great--maybe in state hurt--too many mass kids? Did any others from your school get in?

yea the fact i'm in state probably hurt. 4 kids got in early action and i dont know of any others that have gotten in RD so far with at least 2 rejections

Yeah, I was considering the fact that being in-state hurt my application. Oh well, I will accept a spot on the waiting list and hope for the best. At least it wasn't a flat-out rejection, but it still isn't an acceptance.

when do you think most of the acceptances will be mailed out? Also, I still didnt receive anything from BC. Is this a good sign?

While most of the letters received had been waitlists and rejections, it's not really surprising considering that BC's acceptance rate is only 31%. Therefore, over two people will get wait-listed or rejected for every 1 person who gets in.

Both acceptances and rejections will still come. So don't automatically assume that you're accepted if you haven't received anything yet.

For the people who were wait-listed, BC could accept up to 20% of their wait-list. If the admissions people predicted that yield rate will stay the same this year, it will create vacancies in the freshman class as the yield rate will almost certainly go down, allowing BC to accept people off the wait-list. So don't give up yet!! :)

Maybe so many qualified people get rejected and/or waitlisted because BC believes that they are one of their saftey schools, and therefore chances that they attend are slim. Someone with great SAT scores tends to aim for schools that are ranked better than BC.

^ not the case at my school

if you look at statistics at past kids, those with higher ones always get in, those with lower ones do not

receiving the letter on Thur., I still got rejected...=[

piaoyuelingxing, how far away from BC do you live?

hahahahahaha, this is absolutely hilarious, i got wait-listed

sat: 1400
sat ii: 780 bio, 720 math, 710 ushistory, 680 writing
gpa: 4.0 weighted
lots of ecs + leadership
great essays + recs in my opinion

oh well, I think it's so funny..I'll take my chances at the ivies/jhu/cmu.

sry to here that xindianx...
Where did BC rank on your list of the schools you applied to?

it was a match/safety, I didn't really plan on going, just applied in case I didn't get into one of my top choice schools (cornell, jhu, columbia, uchicago, emory, carnegie-mellon, or tufts)..and from what almost everyone has said including my gc, I should get into atleast 1/2 of my top choices..

haha I was waitlisted too. I dont really care as I dont really want to go to BC anyway.

ATLEAST half? I don't think so. Your SATs are lower than the mean for MATRICULATING students each of those schools. The mean SAT score for everyone who got in would be much higher since usually only the lower acceptees actually attend the school(with the exception of Harvard, Princeton, Yale, MIT and maybe a few others).

I think you'll get into one of your top choices, but don't be so cocky yet ;) I used BC as a safety as well, but I would be really dissapointed if I got wait-listed or rejected for it.

very true PhOenix.....you seem to be very educated about this entire process......where else did you apply

I disagree,
xindianx has a really good shot at CMU and Tufts (though I prefer BC over tufts)... He also has a decent shot to get into 1 or 2 of the other schools on that list. UNLESS that 4.0 gpa W is misleading (like out of a 5)

Im hoping to get into Columbia, Duke, Tufts(free tuition cuz my dad works there), Dartmouth, Cornell, Rice, and/or Notre Dame. I used NYU and BC as safeties, but if those were the only two that I got into, I wouldn't mind going to either. And U Mass :P

EDIT: Redsox, the average SAT score for matriculating Tufts students was 1430 last year, which would put indian in the bottom 30-40 percent for matriculating students. A 4.0 weighted from a non-prestigious HS doesn't make him stand out either.

Again, I do think he will get into one of those schools. But getting wait-listed for a "safety" school isn't the way anyone would want to start the college acceptance proccess nor is it a good sign for the decisions to come.

The 4.0 weighted gpa is out of 4.3, and I meant 1 or 2 schools as in 1/2, not half of my top choices, that would be absurd lol. Thank you red sox, and I promise I am not being cocky, I was just wait-listed 30 minutes ago from a school I honestly considered would be a shoe-in..it's just my current mood lol..ill be okay in a couple hours..hopefully next week will be a better week!

..and just so there isn't any more speculation of my credentials..the 1400 sat is 720 math and 680 verbal, not some crazy difference..
