Official 2010 Regular Decision Thread

Accepted!
Just got my package with the Honors Program invite and all! Excited =]
Will post stats soon!

toostressed: you won’t feel isolated because of left wing views…The majority of students here are left leaning. Also, the Jewish thing won’t be a problem either…I know Muslims, Jews, atheists…None of them feel out of place here. There are a lot of religious Catholics here but also a lot that aren’t and you can completely avoid religion here all four years if you so wish. It’s not a big deal and people are accepting. Being Jewish and left wing should be the last thing that affects your decision to come here! Hope this helps.

How the heck are people with 500’s on SAT sections getting in when I get wait listed with a 34 ACT, good grades, solid ECs, and tons of community service? It doesn’t make sense.

Dear iwannagottoBC : If you are referring to the profile of ilovemycoffee, you will need to search for the OTE program on the Boston College web site as this will help set the context on that particular profile. This is one of the out-of-band profiles from BC’s SAT profile designed to reach potentially good students from underprivileged educational backgrounds.

Coming back to your profile, your 89.2->89.8 average which was Top 30% of your high school class might have been a contributing factor in your status. Also, a deferral from Loyola/Maryland (66% acceptance) was a real flag as both Boston College and Loyola are Jesuit which made me wonder if there was something in your essay or application which somehow stamped you as a non-interesting applicant to both schools. Your acceptance to American shows that you have the academics to compete in the Patriot League schools for sure - however, there has to be something that was “off” in your essay/application details. While Boston College might have been oversubscribed with New York representation, it is hard to believe that Loyola would have been in the same position.

uhh yes I am real. o.o What are you saying?

I think the fact that i am in a non public school had to do with it. NBD, i didn’t plan on attending even if i got in :)

General Comments/Congratulations/etc: congrats to everyone going - its a great school. i am rejecting my place on the waitlist!

It’s got to be tough on rejected or waitlisted applicants when they read on this forum statements from admitted students such as, "can’t add…poor at maths. "

haha I just saw that too Kelly… although to be fair, “maths” is grammatically correct in England…

Just got accepted to BC. I am a US Citizen living in Central America and got my letter of acceptance through Courier (DHL). I’m very happy. No financial aid information yet, since I had a missing document which I already sent by fax yesterday. Best of luck to all of you, especially those who have BC as their Nr. 1. God Bless you all!

To: iwannagotoBC

I can understand your frustration however I earned my acceptance. Although I do not have great test taking abilities, I have done everything possible to make myself a good candidate for selective schools. I am highly motivated and worked hard to overcome my disability. I am extremely active within my school and community and have proven to be worthy of acceptance. Intelligence and potential can not always be recognized within a standardized test and BC recognizes this as well. I may have a lower test score but it does not make me any less of a student or intelligent human being.

I posted my stats on CC because I hope to motivate other students that perhaps lack in areas such as myself. These students are sometimes made to feel inadequate. (Your post for an example.)
I do hope that you are accepted to BC because I understand how it feels to work so hard for a goal. In addition, I hope you have really thought about this issue of scores. If Albert Einstein took the SATs, he would probably have a similar SAT score as myself. He is another individual with a learning disability, who had to prove to people that intelligence can not be tested with a fill-in the bubble sheet.

So many haters on this thread. There is obviously a reason why some people got in while others didn’t. If you have a problem with the decisions, don’t attack a person who was lucky enough to be accepted, contact admissions and argue with them. Although I doubt that it would get you anywhere. You would probably just end up looking dumber then you already do on this forum.

^ Yeah, I second that.

Dear ilovemycoffee : You have eloquently expressed your credentials, challenges, and background story in an endearing manner. As you have recognized, the hyper-competitive admissions environment at Boston College will often bring focus to the hard numbers as many high school students are only familiar with that measure of success and failure. Your story is compelling and we hope that the OTE program and your Boston College experience meet all of your goals.

Dear eemmzz10 and kiterunner18 : The posting from iwannagotoBC expresses the frustration that many applicants feel when all of the numbers seem to align with a particular university’s profile. I would not say that the poster is “dumb” or even appears dumb, but instead, you are seeing the passion spill over into what became a personal profile attack. With time, this wound will heal all around.

Dear iwannagotoBC : Keep your chin up and head held high. Your other collegiate acceptances will hopefully place you into the right academic situation for your future. If we can be of any help to you, please feel free to private message us here.
