Little Conclusion: I think not retaking the SAT did hurt a lot, since all ivies and top 10 rejected me, though my essays are really wonderful(well that’s what the writing fellows at U of R said~). For students applying during their freshman year, they still took into consideration your high school stats, SAY SAT, a lot. So do retake it if it is not at least over 2000. That’s all I want to say to you 2011 applicants! Go For Your Dream School!!!

Took a gap year after sophomore year to take a job in retail and to work on transfer applications. Not a bad idea, as it turns out. One last thing. I think it’s a tremendous boost to your application to have at least one recommendation from a professor that specializes in your intended major. I didn’t have a recommendation from an economics professor and every school I chose economics as my intended major I was rejected from.

Hooks: a clear idea of what you want to do with your life/goals… even if you’re not positive, write like you are positive about it. a good essay can set you apart. also, take advantage of personal statements. for those interested in chapel hill, recommendation letters aren’t required. i didn’t even think about it, and i got in without supplementary materials. don’t fret about that as much as your grades and essay. it just takes a good essay with character & a clear idea of what you want to do in life, some extracurricular activities, and most importantly, decent grades. all i had was a 3.5, and i did the application at the last minute.
