IGETC: Completed.

Other: First generation college student.
Did I receive the FA email?!: No

Comments: Asian, Korean. 5 years active duty in the Marine Corps. 2 deployments to Iraq. I honestly didn’t think I’d get in b/c UCLA (Bus. Econ) and UCI (Bus. Admin) rejected me. I’m so lucky to have gotten in since my GPA is not quite as high as you’d expect with Haas. Just gives people hope in the future with lower GPAs =]. Got rejected last year for Haas b/c of a missing prereq. I even got a C in the major prereq! Lucky me ^^

Waited months to post this.

Prerequisites: completed by spring 2010. But CR/NC for ECON2 and ECON4 (Major mistake, but clarified in my application and stated that my professor would provide me with a letter proving my letter grade).

Accepted by UC Davis for economics though.
Well, I have only been in America for a little over one year. Considering the language difference as well as my study load (64 units within one year), I thought I would be able to get in.

However, CR/NC for ECON2 and ECON4 was a major issue.
I am filling an appeal. Wish me good luck… Haa , for the sake of experience.

It seems first generation college students means something… I should have mentioned that too. Haa, too late…

REJECTED!! As predicted…

4.0
Applied from: a CCC
Major: EECS
Academics: Missing a major requirement (part of an English series), all other prereqs that articulate are done (only CS61B articulates aside from the core), tons of additional CS classes that aren’t prereqs (shell programming, assembly language programming, C programming, etc.), and a statistics and applied discrete math course that don’t articulate as well
Units: ~100 semester units
EC’s: Working 20 hours/week, robotics/hacking group, engineering/math summer camp for minorities, football/baseball in high school etc.
Essays: 1st essay was super passionate (9/10), 2nd was okay (6/10)
Hooks: 1st gen., low income, and transferring from a low income and underrepresented region of california

WORDS OF ADVICE FOR FUTURE EECS APPLICANTS: Not fulfilling a major requirement is an auto-rejection. You can get in with my stats sans the missing major requirement. Finish the core requirements. Also, don’t be cocky; apply to UCLA even if you think Cal will accept you.

PEACE, CC! Word to your mothers.
