They better be a freaking Edgar Allen Poe/Mother Theressa or something… scored over 700 points higher than them on the SAT and was denied. And doesn’t that demonstrate a robot-like student? One that can’t do well on a standardized test, but can be a drone and get decent grades?

They are just analyzing people holistically! SAT/ACT are just a factor in our evaluation! that’s what happened to me, i am a bad test taker however my grades are fine.

Meowzor, people have opportunities to make their application shine through other means than the College Board’s measurement of “college readiness” on a Saturday morning SAT test. Maybe for those that you are referring to who got rejected, didn’t put their best effort into the application, or simply didn’t have what UF was looking for. It’s so wrong to specifically call out a student on here who got accepted to UF and say gee look at the others who were “so much better than you” and they got denied.

How accurate are SAT/ACT Scores? Well, within only 3-4 months My ACT reading score (with NO preparation) fluctuated from a 17 to a 32. Explain THAT. THEN, my English went from a 29 to a 24?! Why should we view so much in to test scores when there are so many other qualities that attribute to the overall makeup of a student. UF realizes that. I am not saying their admissions policies are completely right or wrong, just saying that SAT/ACT scores shouldn’t be weighed on heavily…

I find it funny that these are your first two posts as well. Do you have a grudge? Also, I got a 500 critical reading (32 act). Test scores definitely do not explain everything and don’t always measure success in college. 700+'ers on SAT congratulations, but that doesn’t mean you should receive admission to all the schools that are not in the Top 20. Oh, and how many of those 1400+ rejected were OUT OF STATE? And what was there UF GPA? By the way, there were people I knew who got accepted with outstanding test scores and to my amazement, a very low GPA. Usually that is not UF’s standard from what I have been able to determine from these decision threads, but it proves their point of holistic admissions.

I tend not to get in long arguments about the issue, but saying “They better be a freaking Edgar Allen Poe/Mother Theresa” is completely immature and wrong. For all you know, they could be. For all you know, they could end up being way more successful at UF than those 1400+'ers that got rejected would have been. LR2010 congratulations on your acceptance, you obviously EARNED your way in to the university and showed them why you are worthy for admission outside of your test scores. Don’t let ANYONE downplay your admission!!!

Congratulations to all who have been accepted! Those who have been rejected, keep your hopes up at other schools. See the girl last year who was rejected by UF and accepted at Yale.

I agree that an application should be looked at holistically, but from what I have observed a large majority of those getting in from my school with sub-standard SAT scores are under-represented minorities.

While I understand UF tries heavily to increase diversity, there becomes a point where it becomes reverse discrimination.

While lr2010 didn’t list his ethnicity, and had a great GPA, I would be surprised if he didn’t have some hook (socioeconomic status, ethnicity, or first generation)
