My D also got “accepted” into the NU.in program, no honors or grants (we didn’t ask for financial aid.) NU was our bottom of the barrel safety school, so we don’t care since she got into a much better school she’s thrilled about. But I agree this brilliant marketing move by NU is sure to backfire among anyone who has other options.

No, not bitter about NU.in, just regret wasting the application fee on a safety we didn’t need, and I have an incredibly low tolerance threshhold for bs.

BTW I think Boston College is a much higher ranked school than NU (we didn’t apply there). Perhaps NU is actually more “selective” against students with higher stats etc, not wanting to tie up slots with less-enthusiastic/less-likely-to-accept candidates?

Anyway best wishes to all who go to NU, NU has done a tremendous job over the years upgrading their programs, and their co-op opportunities are a real advantage.

Maybe it is a little insulting to refer to a school as “a bottom of the barrel safety school”, especially when you are in their forum?

What is the difference between the NUin program and other schools which offer January admissions? I actually think it is a pretty good idea-if you want to go to this school you don’t have to wait to get started?

My son was accepted and I can assure you he has the stats that make him a competitive applicant at any school. I don’t think NEU was afraid to offer him admittance even though he may well go to another school. He also may very well end up at NEU.

Coolkid, what was it you were trying to say???

CAorBust, as an adult you should be taking the high road as an example to your child. Your opening comments as well as your defensive comments portray you in a most unfavorable light. Let’s face it. This entire college application process is most humbling and, to be honest for the most part, simply not fair. Students get in to places unexpectedly and not into others that should have been a shoe in. But to come out of this experience bashing and self aggrandizing is simply poor form.

Son was waitlisted for Business Admin. This was a reach school for him, though his high school tends to do well with NE. Congrats to all accepted to this school that is the best known of the co-op schools. We know a lot of folks who have gone to NE, loved it and are doing very well.
