***Official 2011 Siemens Competition Thread***

[Siemens Competition - Math Science Technology - College Board](<a href=“Search for Scholarships – BigFuture | College Board”>http://siemens.collegeboard.org/)

just curious, has anyone here been involved in JSHS? seems like it and siemens are the only oral-presentation-based research competitions, though JSHS seems a lot less popular than ISEF for some reason lol

I’ve done JSHS before. Oral only in terms of no poster board - yes I think so. There might be one NHS one too, but I don’t know what its called.

They come out at 2pm tomorrow! You mean like the afternoon???
Ahhh! And here I was hoping for a midnight release.

Lets make a list of all the competitions people are applying to, so we know what competitions are available around the country.

Intel ISEF-affiliated Fairs
Intel STS
Siemens
JSHS

did u guys receive an email or some kind of confirmation that they received ur project?
cause i didnt get anything lol

I didn’t. But they said they wouldn’t confirm it, so not to try. I did it by certified mail though so I know they got it.

lol i just got a tracking number and paranoidly checked where the package was every 2 hours till it got to NJ XD and yeah they said they wouldn’t confirm receipt for us. rgh 2pm is 11am for me, i’m going to be itching all 4th period to take out my phone haha…

woot JSHS! waitingforivy were you at nationals?

Tomorrow morning is gonna be hell lol… I wont be able to check my phone till lunch :(
Does anyone know how many people submitted projects this year?

@thecube - No, I wasn’t at nationals unfortunately. You’re at least lucky that you get it at 11am . . I have to wait until 2pm. I’m going to die.

@isk82live - My ISEF-affiliated fair also requires an abstract, research plan, poster and research paper, and the local JSHS requires a research paper too.

@Yulesh, not sure, probably around the same number as previous years? I’ve noticed the CC thread this year is a lot quieter compared to years past though, so maybe that means there’s fewer applicants. ;)

And (potential) good news! The thread from 2010 says results are usually posted earlier!

Darn, I can’t do the JSHS thing because it’s for individual only, I did a group research project.

@waitingforivy - I have to wait until 2pm too, grrr. And yeah, my ISEF affiliated fair has quite an intense judging process to qualify for ISEF.

@batfan - Maybe this thread will get bigger after tomorrow when we’re all celebrating/crying. And yeah it says “before 2pm”, so I’ll try before hopefully.

Good luck everyone …

Semifinalist!

Semis: <a href=“Siemens Foundation - About us - USA”>Siemens Foundation - About us - USA;
Regional Finalists: <a href=“Siemens Foundation - About us - USA”>Siemens Foundation - About us - USA;

Dang, nope…

Regional finalist!

Anybody know how regional finalists are supposed to sign up for the competition? or are we already signed up for the closest university to us?

Are regional finalists the ones who advance to Nationals? So semifinalist means you’re done and don’t get to compete anymore?

SEMI FINALIST!!! so excited.

Where did you find out whether or not you’re semifinalist? Is it on the webstie?

REGIONAL FINALISTTTT with a math project!!! How that happened i have no idea… but whatever! Looking forward to enjoying this!

And I heard a record 1400 poeple submitted this year…dang!
Also yeah, you’re done after semi’s. Haha I would have been completely surprised if I even made semis… but finalist is just like…wow

how do we register/sign up for the university we are attending if we are a regional finalist? Are they going to send out emails about what to do next? I cant find anything on their website
