3.12
All Ive got is 25 completed Units!!!
Im working on 19 Units right now.

What are my chances. Because I haven’t completed the required 30 unites, but
I WILL by the end of Fall!

Trying to get into UCSD, UCI, UCSB, UCSC, or UCR!!!

Please help … im having very bad thoughts!

THANK YOU!

I tagged for UCSD (2nd choice), UCSB, and UCD, and am applying for UCLA (1st choice) and UCB.

Major: History

Transfer GPA: 3.69

Pre-reqs: All done with A’s

IGETC will be done by Spring

EC: Phi Theta Kappa (honors society) member, volunteer help in 2nd grade classroom (with setting up and grading, not tutoring).

Essay: I am a strong essay writer but I am worried my lack of EC’s will hurt my chances for UCLA, but I think my personal story may make up for that.

Work xp: I was an editor for eight months and promoted to videographer and remained in that position for over two years at a CBS affiliate news station and worked under very stressful guidelines.

Extras: Upward grade trend. My father received his BA and Masters from UCLA. CA resident born and raised.

Personal Story: I was a C student throughout high school and never dreamed I would have the opportunity to attend a university. My head wasn’t on straight and I just didn’t see what the point of doing good in school was. I decided to go to a community college after graduation just to see what would happen. I received two F’s and a W my first semester and decided college wasn’t for me and took a full time position at the news station. After two years of full time work I was laid off but gained professional, hard working values which I had never had before.
I decided to try again at my CCC full time, and my first semester back my mother’s cancer relapsed and was much worse than her first diagnosis. She was hospitalized almost 200 miles south of our home and my father moved with her, where they lived for nearly five months. I was facing the tasks of taking care of the house, visiting my mother, and keeping up with my schoolwork. I finished the semester with a 3.92, received academic renewal on my first semester, and have continued my academic success since. And I’m happy to say that my mom is now in great health. Sorry for the essay but I think it’s a good story haha. Thanks for reading and chancing me.

…bump…

^ just to give you a heads up: there are a lot more chances than chancers. what i’d recommend is look in this thread for your major and compare your chances with theirs to see where you stand.

CC APPLICANT
WANTS: UCLA (FIRST) THEN UCSD, UCI (May Apply To Berkeley Just To See!)
MAJOR: Psychology
GPA: About 3.45 - 3.5 By End Of Fall

Chances?
Also, what is a good alternative major for TAP Psych, Sociology can’t work since it’s a top 10 major.

Finally it’s my turn to apply for real!

Major: Aerospace engineering for most UCs, for UCB (Nuclear Engineering, My absolute number 1 dream to pursue. Plz Berkeley, TAKE ME.)
GPA: 3.98
Units: will have maybe even more than 100 by the time of transferring ( change major half way)
EC: Nothing, really, sadly. But I have a 2-yr-old kid to look after.
Essays: Haven’t started.
Schools applying to: UCB, UCD, UCI, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB
Pre-reqs: Will be done 100% by spring

@AintSettlin: Try tagging for UC Davis as your possible safety school. They have a good psych program. Im a psych major too. Applying to UCLA and UC Davis.

If you plan to go on to be a clinical or neuropsychologist UCLA, UC Davis, UC Irvine, and UCSD are better bets than Berkeley. Berkeley treats psychology as a social science discipline while the four UC’s I mentioned does psychology from a medical standpoint.

For chances, you are borderline because the gpa for transfer for UCLA psych is a 3.78 for the fall but your EC’s will help and TAP as well.

@AintSettlin thats good that your’re finishing your pre-reqs this semester.

@Pinoiako916
Oops I forgot, I did TAG Davis And SB but I didn’t list them because they weren’t really my top choices.
Thanks for the feedback. My only grades that aren’t A’s really only came from business classes from my AA degree. Do you think that makes a difference? What is your second major choice?

@AintSettlin i currently dont have a second choice but I did a TAG for Davis though. Right now, I already did a rough draft for my essays. Is your GPA on an upward trend?

Here are my stats:
Major: Psychology
College American River college in sacramento
UC GPA: 3.82 (hopefully 3.84 by the fall of 10’). Right now, my GPA is on an upward trend. Had a 3.5 during my first year of college but had 4.0’s since the fall of 08’ semester.
Applying to:UCLA, UC Davis, UC Berkeley
Prereqs: Done for UCLA, Will be done in the spring of 11’ for UC Davis and Berkeley
IGETC: Will be done by the fall of 10’
TAG/TAP: UC Davis TAG

EC’s:

 1. Volunteer at a adult day care center, helped Alzheimer patients with mental exercises like playing board games, helping them do art work, assisted the physical therapist in leading exercises with patients with all kinds of mental difficiencies, assisted in walking and physical therapy with patients who were basically almost bedridden or wheelchair ridden.
 2. Volunteer at a hospice. Helped families especially if their loved one has passed away from an emotional standpoint. Worked with the patients to help them cope with their lives especially for those who still are in denial that they will eventually pass away.
 3. General and Social Psychology tutor in the summer of 08’. Chemistry tutor during the spring of 09’ led beacon tutoring in an integrated organic/biochem class. Helped out fellow students mentally raise their grades from failing to passing grades.
 4. Psychology club member

Essays: Doing them right now, will state the above ec’s and how it changed my life, how it relates to the major that I am studying for. For prompt 2, will state how I used education to escape from a horrible lifestyle of drug addiction and truancy as a high school student.

Major: Psychology

GPA: 4.0
Applying to: UCB, UCD, UCSD
Prereqs: Davis prereqs will be finished by spring; need a handful more for UCB and a frustrating amount for UCSD (calculus, biology, etc.)
IGETC: Will be completed in spring '11

EC:

 1. Supplemental instruction leader (English & History)
 2. CCC peer tutor
 3. Honors Enrichment Program

UCB and UCSD both seem like a long shot because of not meeting the prereqs, but a small part of me holds hope that my GPA could help tip the scales in my favor?

@Acuvue, what pre-reqs do you need for UC Berkeley psychology? Im applying there as well and the only pre-req I need is physical anthro. If its only one pre-req that you will be doing during spring of 11’, then you are ok.

Your’re GPA will help, anything over a 3.8 will give you a good shot especially for Berkeley.

@ Acuvue, I meant your*

Acuve, I did not know that psychology major requires calculus. How many do you need? For UCs, finishing the Prereqs is a big deal, cause GE classes are easy to fulfill, but prereqs really show them you’ve gotten what it takes to maybe do well in your major. Your GPA definitely is encouraging but calculus and biology are both more difficult classes. But anyways, if you finish your IGETC in time, do apply! Good Luck.

Only for UCSD gattaca88

^Although I think they still prefer you take Stats, UCLA and UCSB do at least and on the UC system they’re like the top and the bottom… or something… it’s like UCLA/Berkley and UCSB/UCR.

I wasn’t going to try for Berkley because of all the required Bio courses in Psych (really, assist makes it look more like a bio major than a Psych major), but maybe I’ll apply for yuks.

Schools: UCB, UCD, UCLA
Major: Political Science

GPA: 3.85
All prerequisites will be done for UCB, UCD, UCLA close.
IGETC complete

EC: Alpha Gamma Sigma Honors Society, phil club

OMG. You should chance me, love!(;

Major: Psychology
GPA: 3.65
PRE-REQ GPA: 4.0
Applying to: UCLA, UCD, UCI, UCSC
SIR: UCLA! if not, UCD
Transfering from: Community College!
Prereqs: All done by Spring…except for UCI,
i’m only missing 1 or 2 preq’s i think?
IGETC: Done by Spring (only one left)
TAG/TAP: TAG-UCD,UCI, and UCSC. NO TAP-UCLA ;_;
ECs: Board member of Honor Society, Church member, Dean’s List, International club member, Japanese club member, Psi Chi club member, Teacher’s pet, won an art award in a contest
Essay: 10/10. very beautiful, strong, and personal<3
Comment: The fruits of my life(:

love the quote, OP

It’s true, the chance-me threads are very redundant and useless.
I know a kid last year–ranked 2/584, perfect 2400s, etc. Applied to all the usual high schools and only got into his safety school. -_-

Attended a transfer seminar at UCLA this past week. One thing that kind of freaked me out was how they said that the applicant pool is growing every year, which makes it even more competitive.

I’m shooting for Business Economics with TAP, 3.83 GPA, Prereqs done in spring, work experience and internship experience in finance.

I wonder how much more impacted the major will get with this years applicant pool.

How stressful…
