GPA: 3.82
TAP: Done by spring
Igetc: Done by spring
Prereqs: Done by spring (taking Calc 2 and honors Managerial Acct currently)
EC: Financial internship
Essay: Solid

My counselor said I’m quite strong, all that matters now is how all the other candidates are looking. Chance?

@Swagger, I think you’re pretty much in. You are going to have all the pre-reqs completed along with TAP. What do you think about me? I would have been in the same situation as you if I was able to add Calc. 1 during the winter session = /

@melocotones: I copied some of your info, since it was very similar to mine XD. @ccctouclaoruc: Your chances look good, especially if you are that confident with your personal statement. @swagger: I can’t say the same about you “pretty much [being] in,” though your chances are not bad, since you are TAP certified. I just know of some people with 4.0 GPAs being accepted to Cal and not UCLA. You’ll never know what to expect from UCLA/CAL, especially when your major is one of the most popular during these dismal times. I wish you the best! @wizard: I’m sorry to say this, but after much research and counseling appointments, I believe that your chances for acceptance to UCLA/Cal are very low if you don’t have your prereqs completed by Spring.

-Got TAG by UCD and UCSC(approved with a 3.01 GPA)
-Need about 9 pre-reqs at this moment but I will be able to knock out 3 this spring and summer(all pre-reqs are higher math, chemistry, and physics.)
-66 units after Fall
-IGETC done
-Only reason why I applied this year despite the amount of pre-reqs to finish was my approval of the TAG.I really want to get in at Davis.

Hello!
I applied to UCLA, UCB, UCSD, and UCI for the fall 2011 term as a political science major.
I am an international student from Japan and a community college student in America.
I will finish IGETC by the end of this spring semester and my GPA is 4.0 so far.
As for UCB, I completed all major requirement classes.
As for UCLA, I finished only three out of four political science requirement courses, and I am currently taking required statistics this semester. I was not able take the forth requirement which is political philosophy.
I guess my personal statement is unique and good enough, and I volunteered as a teaching assistant in Japanese classes for two years. Not honers student, no TAP though

What are my chances to be accepted from UCLA and UCB?
Also, doe anyone know how much of a disadvantage there is being an international student?
Thank you!

Applying: UCLA, UCR, UCI, UCSC, UCD, UCSD

Anyone think I actually have a shot at UCLA or UCSD? How about the other UC’s?

@WalkmanINT history is impacted i think you need at least a 3.7 to be considered for ucla. the Ws they won’t care about, you have good ECs. are u in TAP? based on your gpa i dunno if you’ll get into ucla even if you are in tap but who knows it might help. but as of the other UCs…you have a pretty good shot at getting in.

@soysauce28 mmm 3.4 is pretty low for psych…at least for la…but for ucsd and sb you have a chance. and criminology at irvine you def have a chance.

THIS GOES OUT TO EVERYONE WHO HAS AN IMPACTED MAJOR*

most impacted majors you need at least a 3.7 the only exceptions are business economics, economics, economics/int’l area studies, and communications, the departments for these 4 majors usually accept people that have a 3.9. a ucla rep told me that the communications department wont even look at applications that have a gpa of less than a 3.9 but that seems like it wouldn’t be true…

as for the other impacted majors (psych, poli sci, history, english, bio, sociology, etc) if you have like a 3.5-3.6 and you are tap certified…you would prob get in. but don’t think that if your a psych major and ur tap certified you’ll get in cuz you have a 3.3 or something. that MIGHT only work if your major is NON-impacted.

ECs: Community Service related to Political Science major.
Community Service (9th-11th)
Worked at my school’s computer lab
Worked at Yogurt Shop (20-25 hours a week)
Some club activities in high school
Dean’s Honor List every semester

Essay: I don’t know how I can rate my essays…but mine was okay.

Other:

-Started attending SMC in Summer 2009

-The thing is that I didn’t do really well in my pre-req courses since philosophy is really hard at SMC ): I think this is the reason that will lower my chances at UCLA. I explained why I wasn’t able to do well in my pre-req courses on my application (My grandmother and aunt passed away in that semester…) However, UC Berkeley does NOT have any pre-reqs for Philosophy major. They do, but none of them was offered at my college.

-Took 22 units in fall 2009 and took 23 units in fall 2010…if this helps.

-Already Finished my IGETC by spring 2010.

So what do you think my chances are? My first choice school is either UC Berkeley or UCLA. It doesn’t really matter.

@berkeleyphil unfortunately i don’t know much about berkeley and their stats. i know a lot about ucla and a descent amount about uc irvine and sd. as for ucla i think you’re in, even though you said you didn’t do that well in your pre reqs, your gpa is pretty solid for a phil major and you have the ECs. as for uc irvine and sd you should be okay :)

@goberkeley: I think you’re definitely in at UCLA, and I think you will also get accepted to Berkeley even if you got a B in a pre-req course. One B in pre-req won’t hurt you that much since your GPA is very solid and high.

Also, UC’s never care about W’s and grades you got in non-transferable classes.

@goberkeley your gpa is high enough for me to tell you that you’ll get into berkeley, that one B won’t hurt you. as for ucla you’re in also, but im guessing you want to go to berkeley more and you have a really really high chance. as for the other schools…you’re in.

I’m going to Mt. SAC which is California Community College. It’s only my first year in college but I just want to make sure I’m on the right track and if my chances so far are high. I want to go to UCB, UCLA, Cal Poly SLO, and USC.

Major: Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering
GPA: 3.7 and plan on getting up to a 3.8 after this year.
EC: Student Government, Hospital Volunteer, Homeless Shelter Volunteer, Engineering Club, Honors Classes, Alpha Gamma Sigma (Honors Society), and I have a part time job working in a Industrial/Manufacturing facility that makes and distributes parts for aircraft.

I know I am only a freshman but what else should I do to be as competitive as possible. Thanks.

@jibarra47 if you have a 3.8 or above and finish all of ur pre reqs then you’re golden for ucla as an engineering major. however i don’t think ucla offers industrial or manufacturing engineering from my knowledge (i may be wrong) these are the engineering majors ucla offers…

Aerospace Engineering
Bioengineering
Chemical Engineering
Civil Engineering
Computer Science
Computer Science and Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Materials Engineering
Mechanical Engineering

as for UC Berkeley i don’t know much about the school and their stats (sorry). and usc you should be fine.
