GPA : 4.0
Major: Philosophy
IGETC : Will be completed by spring
Pre-reqs : All done by spring
Personal Statement : 9/10
EC : My old HS’s assistant track and field coach, varsity track and field member, work experience(albeit a neglible amount)

One W in a non major or igetc related class - realized that the class was a complete waste of time.

Applied to:UCB, UCLA, UCI

@uclakid Thanks and no im not in TAP but I guess we’ll see what happens.

@CCjuniortransfer: I’d be shocked if LA and Berkeley don’t admit you. Don’t worry, your W won’t matter to them. Your stats are excellent.

@CCjuniortransfer
you’re in Berkley, ucla, and uc irvine. UCs don’t care about Ws.

You guys have such creative usernames.

Hello,

Schools : UCLA, UCB

Major : Biology

Current school : CCC

Overall GPA : 3.96

Prereqs : Finished 3 sems of calculus, 2 sems of calculus based physics(there are total 3 physics classes), 2 sems of General biology, 2 sems of general chem, 1 sem of o-chem with A’s

IGETC : need to take 2 more classes in Humanities Area to get certificated, have taken the rest of them.

EC : None

P.s. I am worried that UCLA strongly recommend to take 2nd o-chem at cc, but I could not take it. Also, I have one W.

Thank you

@wanted although a high GPA…Biology is extremely impacted…UCLA even said the acceptance is higher than the average acceptance gpa…

how long you stay in CC?

Schools: UCB UCLA

Major: Computer Science

Current School: CCC (De Anza College)

Overall GPA: 3.83

Prereqs: For UCB - IGETC and prereqs finished before transfer
For UCLA - IGETC and prereqs finished except for finishing up Physics. Only took one quarter at my CCC

EC: None

Thank you

@Churroke I started my course work since Fall 2008, so it has been 2 and half years at CCC.

Also, I just realized some correction needed about prereqs: I am currently taking 1st o-chem, and 2nd general biology, and Critical thinking Enlgish Class this spring. So, I have not gotten grades for those.

Thank you!

I figure I’ll post mine again, since there are some different people around now.

Schools
UCLA, Berkeley (TAGing into UCSD)

Major
Political Science

Current School
CCC

GPA/Academic History
Cumulative, 3.37.

Fall 2006-Fall 2007 was at a small, unknown LAC that almost lost it’s accreditation last year. 2.0 with 27 units, unknown how many will transfer. Most courses don’t have direct parallels at UCs. Cumulative GPA assumes all 27 units will be judged transferrable.

Fall 2007-Spring 2009 was part time at a CCC, 15 units total, 3.8 GPA (4 A’s, 1 B). Also working during this period.

Fall 2009-Fall 2010: Full time, including 23 units between January and June 2010. 46 transferrable units, 4.0 GPA. Received two A+'s and an A in Fall 2010.

Spring 2011: No transferrable courses. I will potentially (depending on the LAC courses) have 88 transferrable units after Fall 2010; 90 or more makes me ineligible for San Diego.

Prerequisites
UCLA: All 4, all A’s, 2 of them Honors.
Cal: Both PoliSci, plus the History class, all A’s.

IGETC completed by end of Fall 2010. TAP-certified.

EC/Soft factors
-Provided tutoring in various subjects, as requested by other students. Honors program (TAP).

-Former intern for state assemblyman (both he and his COS are UCLA graduates).
-Staff-level experience on four political campaigns, volunteer-level experience on three more.
-Have given on-record, published statements to area newspapers involving a governmental office.
-Currently Special Projects Coordinator to an elected official who represents 500,000 constituents.

Essays
Strong, in my opinion, but atypical. I wrote them as a narrative, describing some of my more unique experiences in politics.

My comments
I’m an interesting case. Low overall GPA, but with a very sharp upward trend. It’s not even a trend, really–2.0 at the unknown LAC, then an immediate spike to 3.95 at the CCC, with no real in-between. Very strong major-related work experience. Thoughts?

GPA : 3.39 (Fall is included)
Major : Anthropology BA @ UCLA
IGETC : Finished
Pre-reqs : 3/4 done by Fall, finishing last in Spring
Personal Statement : 8/10
EC : Anthro club, work fulltime

What are my chances?

@SMCguy: anthropology isn’t impacted but i think the avg gpa accepted last year was a 3.6 and yours is lower than that so that might hurt you. having your pre reqs and igetc finished is good and your ECs are good but your gpa def matters. maybe if you were tap certified it would help you but your chances now i would say are 50/50.

@nick_scheu: hmm your gpa is pretty low for your major, but like you said you do have a good upward trend. i dunno if that is enough to save you tho, the fact that your tap certified MAY help you for la, but i don’t think you’ll get into Berkeley.

@golumstoe: your gpa is good for your major but i didn’t get what you said about physics are you gonna finish it before transfer? because if you don’t then that won’t look so great. overall you have a chance.

@wanted: UCs dont care about Ws. your gpa is above the avg acceptance rate for bio which is really good on your part. however you are missing a pre req so that may hurt you. but i dunno your gpa is pretty damn good u def have a chance.

Reposting for my friend. I’ve essentially told him everything I myself have experienced/have knowledge of in transferring (especially since both his primary/alternate majors/GPA are closely related to mine from last year), but I decided to post this up anyways.

This is all for UCLA, since he’s tagged everywhere else.
GPA: 3.4
Major: Political Science
Alt. Major: Anthropology
TAP Certified
EC’s: Few seasonal jobs, member of community organizations. Not much else.

Basically I’ve told this guy that he’s got a low chance of getting into P. Science, but a good chance of getting into Anthropology.

@Levonid: the advice you’re giving your friend is absolutely right, since he is tap certified he has a good chance of getting into anthropology but his chances of getting in as a political science major is pretty slim. although he needs to finish his pre reqs for anthropology to be in good standing for getting accepted into that major.

Oh right, yeah. He’s finished the pre-reqs for both majors as well.
Anthropology is getting a lot of applicants year-by-year, 2011 being no exception. Hopefully it won’t get too competitive.

GPA: 37.9
Major: History
Applied: UCLA, UCB, (UCI and UCSD) TAG
IGETC: Done by Spring
Pre-reqs: Done by Spring
Personal Statement: 9/10
Extra: Bible school, scouts, Model United Nations

GPA: 3.79
MAJOR: Biz. Econ/ Math Econ. as alternate
applied: UCLA, UCI, UCB (don’t really want to go to Berkeley)
IGETC: Done
Pre-Reqs: Will have 5/6 pre-reqs completed for biz. econ Calc. 1 in the spring and Calc. 2 in the summer.
Pretty good personal statements as well.
So what do you guys think about my chances for biz. econ or math/econ at ucla?
TAP CERTIFIED

@philjoker: your gpa is pretty solid (im guessing you meant to type 3.79 lol) as a history major for ucla. however i don’t know about Berkeley. basically you’re in for uci ucsd and u have a very good chance at ucla. :)

@wizard55: you’re in for irvine. but your gpa for biz econ is not that high for ucla given the fact that they usually accept people w/ a 3.94 or up. however you have a good chance of getting in as a math econ major as long as you complete the pre reqs for math econ by the end of spring you should be okay with getting in with your alternative major.
