I’ll have calc 2 completed in the summer…I’m thinking if I dot get into ucla this year…I’ll just stay another year at a cc and bu
p my gpa up to 3.89-9 ish…but @uclakid I’ve seen people get into ucla as a biz Econ major with 3.8 gpas

hi there, i need some feedback too.

GPA: 4.0
Major: mechanical engineering
UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC Irvine
Pre-reqs: all done except 1 physics class for UCI
Extra: math, english, and astronomy mentor at APASS (volunteer), astronomy teacher assistant (volunteer), asian student coalition, 2 honor courses.
Personal statement: 8/10
Current school: CCSF

@uclakid Thank you for your comment. However, I was just wondering 2nd o-chem and one year of calculus-based phyiscs are counted for prereqs to transfer? I thouht they are strongly recommended to take, but not required to transfer according to UCLA website. I’m not sure if I am right. Also, do you know anyone tranfered to UCLA biology major without 2nd o-chem?

Thank you!

UCLA, Berkeley.

GPA: 3.86
Major GPA: 4.0
Major: Philo
EC’s: Decent I guess.
Personal Statement: Alright as well.
IGETC: Yes, by end of spring.

Bad part:
I will only have 44 CC units completed by Spring (I have 5 AP tests with 4+; I am a 1 year transfer) and I also don’t have any prereqs completed because NONE were offered at ANY CC near me.

GPA: 3.87
MAJOR: (Econ for Berkeley, LA, SD) Biz Econ for UCI
Applied: UCLA, UCI, UCB, UCSD,
IGETC: Done
Pre-Reqs: One Short, doing Calc 2 in Spring
Essay: Good 8+/10
TAG For UCI and UCSD
TAP Certified
Etc: Operated and maintained a successful eBay store

@wizard55 the fact that your tap certified still gives u a fair chance at biz econ but overall i think u have almost a guaranteed spot for math econ.

@randomguy101 yeahhh you should be in for irvine and la. ur gpa is well above average and ur ECs are phenomenal. i dont even think they’ll look at ur essay lol.

@wanted oh! you’re right my bad haha. yeah so since you’re done with ur pre reqs im pretty sure you’re in. your gpa is more than the avg for bio last year it was like a 3.74 and every year the avg gpa for every impacted major goes up like a few points (when i say a few points i mean from like a 3.74 to a 3.79) as long as ur essay wasn’t a disaster you should be fine. i don’t know anyone who has transferred to ucla as a bio major period although since that chem class isn’t required only “strongly recommended”, i don’t think it would matter since your gpa is so high i don’t even think u should be worried about getting in to ucla…if anything i would be kinda shocked if u didn’t get in…

@ArrogantBastard: hmmm well if you’re not gonna have 60 units by the time you transfer i think you are automatically denied from ucla (this is what i heard). u said 44 units with 5 APs so i don’t know how APs get calculated are they just counted as 3 units each? if yes then that brings u to 59 units :-/ other than that ur gpa is very good for ucla.

@LostCollegeBound oooh econ yet another crazy impacted major. umm you def have a shot i mean ur tap certified so that will give u a boost and ur not too far from a 3.94. as for irvine and sd u are in. ur EC is pretty impressive, i dunno i think u have a pretty good chance, esp if ur pre reqs are done.

Please chance me!

Applying to: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCI, and UCD.

Major: Cell Biology (Integrative Biology for UCB, Cell Biology for the rest)

Current School: CCC

GPA: 3.92 (1B in second semester of Physics and 1W in second semester of General Chem, Got W in summer course and I believe it is well explained)

IGETC: will be completed by Spring 2011.

Pre-reqs: All Finished.

Essay: Pretty strong. Talked about why I changed my major from English to Biology.

EC: Volunteer for broken home children, First violin in church orchestra for 8 years, Lead violin in private ensemble, Class president and vice class president for 7 years, Being Dean’s list many times, Many acamedic awards during middle, high school.

Special infomation: International student, took physics courses for engineers

Any comment will be appreciated :)

@uclakid
Wow thanks. I feel somewhat relieved eventhough i still need to wait for couple of months.
But what can you say about my chance to berkeley?

@randomguy101: From what I’ve seen with other Mech Engineering majors, you’re in at Irvine and I would say you have 90% chances at both UCLA and UCB, maybe even higher since your essays are strong.

Someone chance me?

Applying to: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, and UCD.

Major: Political Science

Current School: CCC

GPA: 3.85

IGETC: Finished.

Pre-reqs: Last prereq will be done Spring quarter (Hist 4C for Davis).

Essays: 7/10 (though I don’t really understand how we rate our own essays…? lol)

EC: Dean’s List, Phi Theta Kappa, volunteer at a temple, was on a planning committee for an American Cancer Society walk, volunteered for ~4 months at a hospice

I’ll appreciate any help! :)

@randomguy101: well i mean u have a 4.0 so you should be fine for Berkeley. however Berkeley isn’t necessarily my area of expertise so i don’t really know know they decide who gets in, but i mean a 4.0 gpa why wouldn’t they accept u lol.

however (dont take my word for this, its just what i hear) i hear that many people that apply to both ucla and berkeley only get accepted to either berkeley or la, not both (obviously there have been people who got into both) but i dunno i have seen it happen both ways.

@Calmemo your Ws wont matter cuz UCs dont care about them. you only have one B that’s pretty impressive since ur major has pretty hard pre reqs. ur major doesn’t require a substantially high gpa. therefore you have an incredibly good chance of getting it.

@minilily: Berkeley im not familiar with how they accept their students. but looks like you should be in for the other schools. for ucla your gpa is higher than the avg gpa they accept for poli sci, therefore you have a pretty good chance and ur pre reqs are done which is another high point.

uclakid - it seems like a lot of your chancing of GPAs comes straight from the profile of admitted transfer students. You say BusEcon is admitted only with 3.94 - the exact stat from the profile. It is common knowledge that those stats are a bit inflated.

From what I’ve seen through experience, TAP significantly reduces the required GPA. For instance, 3-4 people from my own CC got into BusEcon w/ TAP with a GPA of around 3.6-3.7, so I don’t really think that chart is too accurate.

Anyways-
Major: Business Economics
GPA: 3.82
TAP Certified
Igetc: Certified
Prereqs: All completed by Spring (finishing up Calc2 and honors Managerial Acct. currently)

ECs:
Manager of small business for a few years
Internship at a Financial Firm
Paid Accounting tutoring
Member of 3-4 clubs, president of 1. member of PTK also.
Currently in the process of securing a big bank financial internship

Hopefully it works out…

@swagger:i go to ucla transfer conferences (im sure other people have been to them too) but its basically a hundred people trying to transfer and asking questions, and 3-4 people from ucla’s admission committee answering the questions. that’s where im getting most of my “chancing” from im guessing its the best information you’ll get since its straight from the people that decide whether or not you’ll be eligible to get in.

i mean if ur tap certified its a diff story but not everyone is, and if you’re not tap certified i think the chart says it all for u or it should be what your aiming for since tap certified students are getting priority. the bizz econ and also communication majors stats i got from the ucla rep who said that most people (most people as in people that are not tap certified) don’t get accepted if they have a gpa less than 3.9 and/or if u are missing even one pre req but maybe they’re exaggerating who knows.

ive heard things like if ur major is impacted and ur gpa is less than a 3.5 and ur not tap certified then they don’t even look at ur application…this is coming from a ucla rep. but like i said maybe they’re exaggerating or trying to push us all to do well.

and yeah the chart isn’t that accurate given the fact that it gets more competitive every year. the chart basically gives u an estimate of where you should be in terms of ur gpa.

but yeah in terms of ur stats it looks like u have a high chance, u have the gpa, all ur classes are done and ur ECs are damn good

UCLAkid and Swagger- What chart are you guys talking about?

You all have more chances than me!
My gpa is 3.0
have one class in session now (winter) and I’m getting an A for sure (3units) but that’s not even gonna raise my gpa i gues.
Will be done with all the requirements after spring 2011. are they gonna count the spring too? because I will be going to 5 colleges in spring with all different classes. I’ll have 5 units at one, 4 at another, 4.5 at other, and another 4units at another college oh and 3 in another lol. i will be probably getting A’s and B’s (mostly A’s) HOPEFULLY, because I will be studying day and night! I wanna get into a good university ahh. anyways.
oh yes and I wil have more than 90 units.
150+ EC which includes volunteering at an elementary school, at a private k-12 school. volunteering at kids organization helping them to prepare for shows/concerts etc. I have been in a club at college and in high school. worked at my high school, worked also at a youth employment service (front desk) and now i’m working too (taking care of an old man. it’s been more than a year now (part time)
I’ve also taken saturday bank classes and have a certificate from there. have also taken computer classes after school during high school if that’s anything useful. i have went to private piano classes for 2 years.
I never knew about my college’s tag program (honors) so i wasnt in it. i only learned about it a month ago or so. so i guess it’s too late to be in it for only one semester.
the saddest part is that my major is psychology! That’s very hard to get into i know. if i had seen the report of admitted students by major before submitting my app, i would change my major lol. anyways i applied to UCLA i know no chance but still. UCI, UCR and UCSB. also USC, Pepperdine, Woodbury. and CSU’s - i guess i gotta stick with these!

oh one more thing, i read some posts about tagging to ucsd or ucsb? if i wasn’t in the tag program at my college, am i still eligible? because i was reading about tag in UC’s website, and i meet all the other requirements. like 30 or more units, 3.0 gpa, etc.

never mind
can this get any worse? i just found out that the tag submission deadline has passed. i am always the last one to find out things! UNLUCKY ME!

^ yeah the TAG deadline was months ago. You could still get in through regular admissions though. There are people that aren’t eligible for TAG that still get admitted. You have a 3.0 which is good since it’s the cut-off for most UCs. As for chances, I’m not sure about Psych majors…

thanks minilily …well yeah everything’s possible i guess but getting to UCLA with psych is pretty hard cause many many people apply for psych with a much better gpa, so of course they’ll prefer those with better academics
