yeah psych is pretty competitive not as bad as bizz econ or communications but psych does get a lot of apps. with a 3.0 i don’t think tap would even help u. im sorry but u still have a chance at UCI, UCR and maybe UCSB. but for CSUs, you’re in.

@uclakid, what do you think my chances are for math/econ if I will have calc. 1 completed by the spring and Calc. 2 completed by the summer? my uc-transferrable gpa is a 3.79 with great essays and an upward trend.

GPA: 3.44 should be 3.6 after this semester
Major: pure math
UCB UCSD UCD(TAG) UCSC(TAG)
IGETC will be done
Pre-Reqs: I got a C in calc1 and a B in calc2 but an A in stats and a B in precal. It’s wierd…but to make up for it I’m taking calc3 AND differential equations/linear algebra this semester. I also explained why I did bad in calc1 in my essay

EC’s: Building and overclocking computers, speedcubing lol.

@wasted55 i dunno if this is true or not but i remember when i went to the ucla conference like 2 months ago one of the people from the admissions committee said that ucla doesn’t count summer classes towards your degree and they only look up until the end of spring…however im sure there are exceptions and i feel like the exaggerate and try to make it harder so they can push people to do well.

but if they do accept ur calc 2 class you should be in! your gpa is above avg and you’ll have ur pre reqs done.

@anth.santos i feel like you’ll get into every UC u applied to except berkeley…but who knows! never lose hope!

@uclakid: I’d love your insight. If you have the time please check out my post on page 27 of this thread and let me know what you think my chances are. Thank you! :)

@uclakid, you have a lot of really insightful information! But I’m worried about what you said concerning UCLA not counting summer classes…hopefully you mean just summer classes taken the summer before you transfer? I’m also wondering if you could answer me this; UCLA asks that English majors complete a ‘yearlong sequence of British literature’, aka English 5 and 6 (at SMC anyway) as part of the major prerequisites. I took both of those at the same time, in the summer, which isn’t exactly ‘yearlong’; does this matter at all? It’s a strange question, but it would be great if someone knows the answer!

@east2eden: my bad i wasn’t clear but yes i meant the summer before you transfer to ucla. and as for your two english classes…you’re fine no need to worry. honestly, as long as u completed those two classes and got a grade you will be fine. :)

@justincalifornia the fact that your major gpa is a 4.0 can def help u (they look at that also btw) ur overall gpa is a bit low for your major but not too low so u still have a chance for ucla as for uc irvine, uc davis and ucsc u should be in. berkeley however i don’t know much about them and how they decide who gets in…sorry. hopefully ur essay was good they’ll look at that. overall you still have a chance for la!

Thank you uclakid! I understand my overall GPA is a tad bit lower and may hurt my chances. I was very happy with my essay. I hope they take the time to read it.

they def look at ur essay if they see an applicant in a position like yours: overall gpa a lil bit lower, but major gpa 4.0. that’s why im thinking u have a chance cuz the “non-A” grades u got aren’t in your major classes. good luck and i hope you get in! la all the wayy!! haha :)

@uclakid, sorry for all the question but pre-calc wouldn’t be considered a major pre-req for business economics would it?

My Chance at: UCLA, UCB, UCD, UCI, UCSD, UCSB

@wizard55 no i don’t believe that pre calc would satisfy as a pre req.

@jashneel2010 looks like you still have a lot of classes in progress/planned so its hard to tell where your at. however you say u will have everything completed and if you do then it looks like you’ll be in good shape. aim for As! try to limit your Bs and absolutely no Cs…they tend to be gpa killers. as for your F as long as u retake it and hopefully get an A you will be fine.

@uclakid:so where do you think i could get in with my major?

Chance me pleaseeee!
Major: History, Alternate- Women’s studies
GPA: 3.4
TAP
Pre reqs- Done for History
IGETC- Will be completed by end of spring
Schools: UCLA, UCSB, UCSD (UCSB and UCSD are TAG)
I have a slight upward trend with a 4.0 in last 10 units, but i also have 6 w’s including 2 this last fall because of a personal situation. (My dad’s lung cancer returned so i had to drop 2 classes but they don’t affect any pre reqs or requirements and i addressed it on my uc app.

EC: Work part time, volunteer work at VA Hospital, coaching basketball teams at the rec center, captain of high school basketball team in 10th grade and was VP of red cross club.

Also, for women’s studies there is only 1 pre req required. However, each of the four cc’s i attended do not offer an equivalent course, so will I be penalized?

I appreciate any feedback :)

Applying to UCLA and Berkeley
Major: Economics
Transferring from out of state top 30 school
GPA: 3.75

I love how after reading GTarrant’s post, people continued to do the same thing. After reading the first few pages of this thread I wanted to post something similar but then I thought, “why bother?” What does it say about us when I’m more surprised by something like GTarrant’s post? I’m guessing it is because of the preponderance of “chance me threads” and posts. I really enjoy the 4.0’s asking to chance them or the butchering of probabilities in an attempt to gauge someone’s chance. The future is bleak.

Applying to Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD(TAG)
Major: Pure Math
California Community College Applicant
GPA: 3.49
IGETC: Will be done by this spring
Prerequisites: I got a B in Calculus 1, Calculus 2, and Discrete Math. I got an A in Calculus 3 and Differential Equations. I don’t know if it helps but last semester I took Discrete Math, Differential Equations and Calculus 3 at the same time. I am finishing up Linear Algebra this semester.
EC: Tutoring Math

I love how after reading GTarrant’s post, people continued to do the same thing.

They probably didn’t read his post, or if they did, they didn’t agree with what he said.

Surprise!
