I’m interested in transferring to another UC from a UC that I’m attending right now, but I was wondering how they calculate the gpa? Is it only freshman year GPA, or is it freshman and sophomore year gpa?

What do you guys think my chances of getting admitted to UCLA.I was invited to compete for the UCLA regents scholarship but their Financial aid office is in charge of deciding who to invite so I’m not even sure if they look for the same qualities as admissions does.
- Major in Political Science
- GPA=3.95
- I will be IGETC certified by end of spring and will have pre-reqs done
- EC’s= Singapore Waterways Watch Society (helped clean up waterways in singapore), Corazon de Vida (helped orphans), Navy Partnership in Education (helped mentor underprivileged and helped teach Math). Was captain of the Track long distance runners and captain of Cross Country team my senior year of high school.
- Awards=Blue Jacket of the Year (chosen as best seaman on my ship), Most Inspirational Track, on President List at Community College.

I feel like I have a really good chance but I hear people with 4.0’s get rejected and people who get invited to compete for the regents scholarship even get rejected at times

loui, based on your gpa and ec’s id say you don’t have much to stress over. I was admitted to ucla a few years ago as a pre-polisci…i only had a 3.5, and not as many ec’s as you at that time. but of course competition increases every year, but still, your stats look a lot better than others ive seen

loui, you look like you have a great shot. The ECs will stand out for sure.

@natjan for UCLA, your GPA is on par with last year’s admit pool, so that helps. TAP certified? Even bigger help!
Chance me, please!!

I’m a single mother of twins. (Father passed away 2 years ago).
I have been working full-time the entire time I’ve gone to school in the drug & alcohol treatment field. My essay on my biggest accomplishment was about the adversity that I’ve had to overcome to get to where I am today.

I am a Sociology major with a 3.6 GPA. I have pretty extensive volunteer EC’s with adolescents in regards to alcohol and drug outreach and have been working in the field for 5 years.

A large part of me feels that because of the cards I was dealt and the paths that I chose to walk down as an adolescent could possibly bump be up a bit.

UCLA is my number 1. I also applied to UCSB, SD and Berkeley.

In all honesty, I just want to get into a 4-year UC. If I got into UCLA I might run naked around my neighborhood with a PA announcing that I got into UCLA. Hahaha.

@alexajam I think you’re in at SB and SD as long as you’ve got IGETC on track for completion.

for UCLA it’s pretty competitive, [Profile of Admitted Transfer Students by Major, Fall 2010 - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof10_mjr.htm)

but I think they do take your personal/external circumstances into consideration when making the decision.

Good luck :)

Can someone please chance me? I think I die a little each day waiting for my decision lol.

CCC transfer
School: UCB
Major: Political Science
3.93 GPA
IGETC and prereqs done
Decent but not great ECs
Worked at 2 different part-time jobs
8/10 essay imo

Any one wanna chance me for UCLA please? Thanks! I applied for Fall 2011, and am awaiting the transfer decisions like everyone else. most likely to come out around april 20th i heard.

I’m transferring from a California community college.
GPA: 3.813
IGETC: Will be finished by end of Spring 2011. I only need one more class to complete IGETC and im doing it right now in this current semester.
Applying as a PHILOSOPHY major. A NON-impacted major.
I wil be finished with all UCLA pre-reqs for the philosophy major by spring 2011. I’m finishing up the last pre-req right now in this current spring semester.
Average GPA of students who transferred to UCLA as philosophy majors last year was 3.54.
I am of Hispanic ethnicity.
Plenty of EC’s : Volunteer Basketball Coach, Volunteered for American Cancer Society, etc. (lol, dont wanna list them all)
Employment: Basketball referee for a local park league.
Won some academic awards at my current community college: Dean’s Honor, President’s Honor, etc.
Had a 4.0 GPA in my most recent semester (Fall 2010, which I updated the grades for the application in january)
I felt my personal statement was strong (I had 3 current UCLA students peer review it for me).

The only NEGATIVES would probably be that I did not do TAP, and in my major pre-reqs (there are 4 of them) I got 2 B’s and 1 A. The last pre-req is currently in progress.

yeah, thats about it. I dont know if theres anything else I need to add (if there is let me know)…
Let me know what you think my chances of getting in are! Good Luck to anybody else looking hoping to transfer this fall!

What do you suggest me to do, to better my chances in getting to UCLA or USC? I know, TAG will help me with UCI. But, is it a guarantee if I have a 3.0 and above?

Thank you!

BTW, I will have taken 56 units by this semester.

Chance me please for UCLA/SD/I/SF/B

New york resident, attending community college in california (occ) since fall 2010.
GPA 3.8 as of now. (it’s my second semester still… If anything, gpa will probably range from 3.5-3.8)

Biology major
participated in a few clubs.

I will take chemistry, biology, and physics in the upcoming semesters (due to the number of students attending this community college, I have yet to get my science classes…) I am in the IGETC program. In my first semester I haver only taken psychology, sociology, humanities, and sex. By the end of this semester I will have pre calculus, film, and english… :(

What are my chances and are all of them a reach for me

-Current school: two CCCs (taking overload units)
-Major: Criminology
-Planning on applying for Fall 2012 transfer admission to just UCI (also plan on applying for UCI TAG)
-GPA: about 3.0 cumulative but will probably end up as 3.3/3.4 when completed prereqs and IGETC by end of Fall 2011
-repeat English course, got an F because I submitted the wrong final term paper. Harsh professor.
-took two classes at CCC my freshman year of high school
-scored 3 on AP Microeconomics exam
-EC: High school-Varsity Tennis for 3 years, Captain my senior year, I also hold two part time jobs: I tutored at a learning center for 3 years since freshman year of high school then became assistant manager for two years and also at the present about 12 hours a week, I’ve also been working at a frozen yogurt chain for about 2 years and at the present averaging about 22 hours per week.
-Other factors that I guess would be considered possibly?: First generation to go to college, Asian-American female.

Advice anyone on whether or not I should consider a backup plan if things don’t work out? Also thoughts on criminology as an impacted major when applying fall 2011 to get into the school fall 2012? I know it might be difficult for me because my current GPA is only minimum. I was hoping if I start stacking up volunteer hours, that it would help.

@lostgiraffe: I definitely recommend applying to at least one other school as a backup. But as long as you maintain your GPA and complete all the TAG requirements, you should be able to get into UCI without a problem.

I was all set to TAG into UCI for Fall 2011, but because they made a mistake while checking my prerequisites, they rejected me. When I talked to my admissions counselor about it, she realized the mistake, but I still have to appeal. So I still may or may not be accepted to UCI even though I should have been in no problem. Luckily, I also applied to UCSD, so if things don’t work out with UCI, I won’t be stuck with nowhere to go.

Tl;dr: A backup plan is always a good idea. Even if you do everything perfectly, UCI might screw up, and then you’d be stuck with no other alternatives.

How likely is it to get admitted to any UCs (specifically Berkeley or UCLA) from an OUT OF STATE community college with a 4.0, IGETC completed, pre reqs completed (Calc 1, 2 & 3, linear alg, differential equations, computer science (java), gen chem 1 & 2, gen bio, and Uni physics mechanics and electricity and magnetism, etc.), and doing community service as some of the extra curricula. Other extra curricula is extensive pre professional dance training and dance shows, chamber singers 4 years of high school, many musicals/concerts, voice lessons 3 years, gymnastics 2 years.

@Minun312 I think if you don’t get accepted it might be because of essay, and maybe because ur EC is a job rather than community service maybe. Also it would help to have a 4.0

@Derek7: “…Also it would help to have a 4.0” …lol are you serious or just ■■■■■■■■? That poster has certainly heard about his admission decision by now, so your post is not really necessary and just makes you sound like a pretentious ass. Just sayin’.

@der3k7

I know about a bunch of people that got rejected from Cal with a 4.0 as CCC transfers (who are supposed to have admission priority). You need something in your essay that is going to make you stand out if you want to go there, though UCLA accepts people based on pre-reqs and GPA for the most part. You just said in your other thread that basically all the ECs you listed were from HS and one from Freshman year. Just in my personal opinion, there isn’t much depth to what you’ve told us about yourself so I would work on that for your application. Admission also depends on your major because some are harder to get into than others due to a more competitive applicant pool and being impacted. I’m assuming engineering or some physical science?

@thecomfycat you’re taking it the wrong way…he was asking for a chance and so I did just that…jeez. and I’ve seen quite a bit of people that haven’t heard form all their colleges yet.

@killmyentourage well the training I’ve been doing for dance during fresh year of college takes a lot of hours throughout the week so there is no time for anything else, thats why. But now that I’ve injured my ankle and have to stop I’m going to find a bunch of community service I can do. and yes, I want to double major math/physics. and yea of course I will expand in my application, I just wanted to get the gist of it out there lol.
