Pre-Reqs: done by Spring 2011
IGETC: done by Spring 2011
EC: AP Calculus AB (score of 5), Math tutor for 3.5+ years
Essay: ok? Not sure if you still need to do it for TAG

one quick question, can you still do tag if you have a lot of W’s?

Vintage: As long as you maintain a GPA above 3.0, you’ll should be able to TAG in. Make sure you finish your final transferable English course this fall. You’re cutting it close, but you should be okay as long as you don’t do poorly this next semester.

iceosmunda: with a 4.0 you should feel confident. I say confident because I do know of a friend who had a 4.0 and was rejected from UCLA (got into Cal though). Didn’t finish his prereqs and his essay supposedly sucked.

Just letting you guys know, if you’re GPA is weaker (below a 3.5) I would only focus on my studies and blow off any EC’s (except interns). Your GPA is the number 1 factor for admission… joining a club or volunteer work won’t help unless you’re applying for a competitive major and you have a competitive GPA…

Can I get a chance on my stats above???

Thanks :)

@MrMcrotch

uhhh dude, you have to be living in Cali for x-amount of time to be considered a california resident. you should double check that required time before getting your hopes up.

@Vintagesoul

check tag agreement with x-college u want to transfer to.

@swagger

Your GPA is okay, but the fact that pre-reqs will be done in spring is going to hurt you. Like I always say (as well as the adcoms): What’s your excuse? Whatever it is, make sure it’s compelling and explain it.

thank you for your suggestion. there are many pre-reqs courses in my major… i cant finish them before the end of spring. bt i will complete the IGETC this fall. do you guys think math/applied science is a impacted major? my first choice is cal… i dont have tap, will that hurt? i think i can keep 4.0 anyway. please give me more suggestions, thank you very much.

Hi Guys!

Applying to: UCB(Econ), UCD(ManEcon), UCSD(Econ), UCSB(Econ/Accounting), USC(BizAdmin)

GPA: 3.83 Cumulative-hope to bring it up to 3.9 by the end of Fall '10 (4.0 Major)
ECs: Treasurer and group administrator of a cultural organization at UCR, Honors program at UCR, Dean’s List for two quarters, essay publication (about women’s rights and economic development in Middle East), 100+ hours of volunteer work at Kaiser Permanente, 2 years of work experience in convenient store as inventory manager and cashier, math tutor, peer advisor/volunteer tutor for seniors at a high school (starting fall '10) and a few others.
Other: First Generation college student (first in family), Multilingual.

Note: I attended UCR last year and now I am at a CC due to family’s financial problems. No TAG, TAP, or IGETC. Please be honest in your responses of my chances for the colleges I will be applying to. Thanks!

^ Very low chance for all UCs because UC to UC transfers are highly disregarded thanks to California’s master plan for education. God bless you California, you treat us community college students well.

For USC, I give you a 50% chance.

Applying from Cali CC:

Major: Double Major in Econ Acct/psychology & Minor in Chinese
UC GPA: 3.26
Applying to: UCSB, UCI, UCSD (might apply to UCLA and UCB just for the heck of it lol)
Prereqs: Done for Econ Acct; half for psych
IGETC: Done
TAG/TAP: TAG for UCSB, UCI, UCSD
Other: My gpa is ruined cause of 2 classes I took my soph year in HS that I got Cs in (Chem and Hist) =o=

Also, just wondering, which UC out of SB, I, and SD would be best for my major? I was looking a lot into UCSB but I might change to international business, and I don’t think UCSB offers that major

@investment

According to an admissions officer at UCB, I will be considered a CCC transfer with mixed records since I will have completed over 40 units at my cc by the end of spring '11. Oh and FYI many UC to UC transfers with strong grades have been successful in the past.

@thechosen1 - how far along are you in your pre reqs?

@redoplease

Completed all with As except for Calc 2 which I will be taking in the spring.

oh well then, i think youre pretty much IN at ucd, ucsb, ucsd unless something goes wrong. however, for usc i give u like an 70%, and berkeley…im not really sure. the hardest to chance is berkeley haha

@madddielove

I think you’ve got a good shot nearly everywhere, but UCLA, and maybe Berkeley, is a reach. Communications is the most impacted major at UCLA, with an average admitted GPA of about 3.95. You’ve got some good ECs, but those don’t matter as much for transfers. I’d emphasize the major-related ECs in your application, rather than your charitable efforts (while noble, UCs definitely prefer major-related ECs for transfers).

Still, you should definitely be competitive at UCLA. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that you were accepted. Good luck!
