*Official* 2011 transfer chance!

Swagger: Currently your GPA isn’t competitive enough for UCLA or UCB in my opinion. Those schools have ultra competition for Business Econ majors… I’m not sure how TAP works though. I don’t know about USC, NYU, or Northwestern. You’re a shoe in for UCSD which is a really great school but like you already know, not as prestigious as UCLA or UCB.

Your EC’s won’t help too much (other than the honors program); don’t bother with clubs focus on your studies. The only thing I can think of that might make you competitive is an internship.

Applying: UCB Hass, USC Marshall
GPA:3.89
Prereqs:A’s in all
Breadth Courses(UCB):A’s in all
ECs:Traded stocks since high school, currently trade index futures and binary options as well as regular options

Tried to get an internship for this summer but was not able to because i had to take summer school (not to retake but to get ahead)

The reason for my GPA is because i got b in prerequisite courses like Pre-calculus and English 28

When UCs calculate your GPA do they look at non-transferable courses as well?

Any input would be great

@ lmendoza.012

Even if my GPA comes up to 3.83, it still isn’t competitive?

Very depressing, I must say. All this stress about GPAs and the future is really eating at me. Must…suck it up!

@talebi818

last year, it wasn’t uncommon even for 4.0’s to get rejected from haas. you’re a toss up imo, even with that high gpa. it gets more and more competitive each year.

you’re almost a shoe in for USC tho, i mean hell, if i can get in with a 3.3 - you should be just fine.

and usually if your major is within the college of letters and science, UC’s don’t calculate non transferable courses, i’m not sure about econ though because i think haas is a different college in berkeley

@rqv5

even if you were a CCCstudent, i still think you wouldn’t get in with that gpa.

@Andrizzle

yeah Haas is not under the college of Letters and Science. Im just banking on my ECs and my own experience in my indented major. Im sure everyone says this as well but im banking on my essays, i think i got a couple really good ones

thanks for the input

DeAnza College (CCC)

Santa Monica College

Transfer: UCLA

@ Swagger:

Don’t get me wrong, you have a very high and extremely respectable GPA and stats but UCLA is super selective for business econ majors… If you get an internship, I’m sure that will make you more competitive then most other people with GPA just like yours.

Like I said earlier, you’re a shoe in for all other UC’s except Cal and UCLA… My guess is 50% probability you’ll gain admission for both of those schools. G’luck man and hopefully you get in.

@Swagger I also think you have a slim chance. Your GPA is below 3.94, but more importantly you won’t be finish with your pre-reqs by Fall. I think you should consider Math-Econ.

San Diego Miramar College

Transfer: Hoping for either UCSD or UCSB, but I’ll also be applying to UCI, UCLA (w/o TAP), UCB, maybe UCSC

GPA:
• Current (most recent classes from this years summer school): 3.57 , Deans List (for what its worth)
• Conservative projection after this Fall semester: 3.50 (yes, exactly).

Major: Mechanical Engineering

IGETC: Will be completed at the end of spring

Prereqs: Will have 1 missing

EC: Continuing 2 year internship at a Fortune 500 company; First year was related to major, second year (aka what im currently doing) is semi-related.

thanks

SMC: My friend got into UCLA as an anthro major with like a 3.3 even though the average gpa was like a 3.5. You have a chance. But what are the 4 pre reqs you’re talking about? I thought there were only 3 for anthro.

@ aerozeppelin

I think you’re basically in at UCSD and UCD. For CAL and LA, you have a strong GPA (I hope that B is not in an Econ or Calc class) but I would recommend getting some good ECs to be more competitive and writing a solid personal statement. Also, try to raise your gpa by the end of fall b/c last year UCLA’s avg admitted gpa for econ was 3.95. Good luck!

Thanks guys

I know it sucks that I have everything done but not Calc 2 done or Manegerial Acct done at the time I submit my application, but it’ll be done before I transfer, it that matters.

It was to my knowledge that having TAP done increases your chances significantly for admission, but who knows. One thing that TAP does allow is the option of an alternate major, and I am choosing to do Philosophy as my alternate major, but I would much rather transfer to a reputable Business program.

What kind of internship would be attractive to the admissions office?

@aerozeppelin

i like ducks.

Hey guys, can I get a chance for my stats? Thanks!

Applying to: UCSD, UCI, UCD, UCLA, UCB

Major: Biology

GPA: 3.86 (along with 1 W)

All prereqs will be done by end of spring. I’m doing Berkeley’s Breadth Requirements instead of IGETC.

No TAP.

EC’s: Hospital volunteer, biology club, homeless shelter, student lab assistant.

@melocotones

if you finish the prereqs for either SD, D , or I, there is a very high chance you’ll be in since your GPA is well above the average for transfers

Tag wherever you can just to be safe.

like everyone else says… you can never be sure about Berkeley or LA. but I personally think you have a good shot at LA.

good luck

@melocotones

I think you’ll get in everywhere. Make sure you write an awesome personal statement though (UCLA and UCB do look at your essay)… Good luck!

@swagger

Any internship is better than no internship. But I couldn’t answer your question… Don’t know how the business/economics world works…

Okay this is my younger brother and I’m curious as to what you guys think…

Major: Chemical Engineering (UCB - Materials Science / Chemical Engineering)
GPA: 3.50
Applying to: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCI, and UCSB
Prereqs: Will be finished with all (including ochem) by the end of Spring 2011
IGETC: Completed by the end of Fall 2010
TAG: UCSD, UCSB, UCI
EC’s: Weak sauce…

I think he’s a shoe in for UCSD and UCI but I’m not sure about UCSB (they always find ways to surprise people). Currently I don’t think he’s competitive for UCB or UCLA but we’ll see if he can boost his GPA up after Fall 2010…
